Hello, my husband and I are planning to get married again in the Philippines on January 2015. We Got married in Las Vegas , march 3,2014. We are planning to go back this upcoming August to do the preparations. We wanted to do a church wedding and ive asked some requirements that a needed for a wedding. To find out that they require alot of paper works, which we dont want to deal with. Our second plan is to do a beach wedding, we are thinking about bolinao, panggasinan(we met in the beach, in Boracay). So yea im posting bcoz i need some ideas on whats the best thing to do first. Or any suggestions from anybody who got married in the philippines.

Thank you

Jean

- Psst!! You are already married. All you can do now is a renewal of vows and have a party.

Hello hank! I know right! Thats basically the main reason why we have to go back and get married again or should i say renew our vows. Kind of filipino tradition. My husband and i are both filipino. But geez dealing with the paper works for a church wedding is just insane. ?

Thats what we thought so.. I called up 4 different churches from different places they all need the same requirements. Confirmation certificates, pre cana seminar, letter from our local church here in california, and we have to look for our own priest to officiate the wedding, the priest need to write a letter to the local archbishop of the the church and a lot more. We asked if they could just do the usual ceremony withoit the legal papers and they didnt agree even if we are married already. So we are looking for a beach wedding hopefully it will be easy than a church wedding.

Really? This is the Philippines. Nothing gets done without paperwork.

BTW, the country is 80% Catholic. When someone says church, chances are they are referring to the catholic church.

The confirmation cert and the pre-cana is easy to get. Half a day for each. The tough one is the letter from your parish in California but if you're a regular church goer, you should be able to get this. As for the officiating priest, ask the church you are getting married in to provide one. You avoid the stupid letter that they have to write to the archbishop.

The church being the pain in the ... they are, they don't recognize marriages outside the church. So being already married (outside the church) doesn't give you any special shortcuts. You go through the process like all those singles wanting to get married (except maybe the need for the marriage license, which is technically not a church requirement anyway)

Also, if you're not too picky, you can parish-shop. Some parishes are more painful (and cheaper/expensive) than others. Competition is great ;)

My sister also got married here and then did her church wedding in the Philippines in 2008 and she didn't really have to do too much paperwork. We are also planning to do a church wedding in the Philippines hopefully in 2017 :)

Not talking about church BS, don't know and don't care about what the church may want. They are already married so there is no paperwork as they are just renewing vows.

OP's question was specifically about church wedding and the paperworks. It wasn't a question of how you personally feel and think about what paperwork the church should only need. If you don't know and don't care then don't respond to the question.

We're trying to be helpful here by giving answers that are facts or at least based on experience.

Yup I read the post... just the same, don't know, don't care... they were also talking about getting married in the Philippines which they can't do. And my answer was to make clear they CAN NOT get married in the Philippines...

... go be a forum monitor somewhere else.

Thanks for your response! Weve been checking churches some are just crazy expensive! So thats why we have to go back and see for ourselves on what we really want. I was thinking of looking for a priest that can marry us in the beach hoping not to deal with the legal requirements of a church.

Please do not response you if aint sure about the info. Bcoz it will just confuse me more. I need specific info here. Thank you. And world peace please!!!

Yes it is crazy expensive. Somewhere along the way the various parishes figured out how to monetize this event. Which parishes have you contacted by the way?

Regarding your plan in the beach. Unless you are very close with the priest, you will have a hard time convincing him to do the rites in the beach. This is something they are not supposed to do. If you want the sacrament of marriage, you have to have follow the (painful) requirements of the church.

The alternative is asking a priest to give a blessing, which is a different thing altogether.

You have to figure out if having the priest there is that important to you and your family.
