Dear all,

we'll be moving to the Minneapolis area soon... I am - of course - very excited and would like to get some info's ahead of time:

- safe/nice areas to live (with good elementary schools nearby)

- ideas on finding a nice/clean and not too pricey home to buy

- possible job opportunities for a german speaker (now working in the legal field)

and I would also be thrilled to make some new friends, maybe with kids (our daughter is 5) :dancing:

Thanks

K.

Welcome to Minnesota! Minneapolis is a wonderful place to live, full of parks, theater, sports, bike trails, and lakes. I am not certain on the elementary schools, but will say if you live in a good neighborhood it will have a good school, here in Minnesota education is taken seriously. For nice neighborhoods really depends if you want to live in the city, or a suburb. Personally my favorite neighborhood is North East (NOT NORTH THAT IS BAD)

(NOT NORTH THAT IS BAD)

I live in Robbinsdale, incredibly close to North MLPS, and it really is not that bad. Gentrification, bro.

Look at suburbs like Edina, Minnetonka, Plymouth, and Eden Prairie. Both Minnetonka and EP have fabulous schools. A bit on the expensive side, though. Those western burbs have so many opportunities for kids and are really family friendly. If you're looking at living in the city, yes, Northeast is nice.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

I live in South Minneapolis near the airport. Great area, very close to the lakes, too! I can't really speak for the schools as I don't have children, but I've not heard any complaints from my neighbors! The only downside is rent in Minneapolis is not fabulous. St. Paul rent is always cheaper, but then you'd have to live in St. Paul lol

The western burbs as mentioned above are pricy and Minneapolis rent sucks (I work in housing and can refer you to some decent LLs). The northern 'burbs aren't back price-wise.

South Minneapolis is also nice (but I think a little more expensive than NE) For job opportunities for a German speaker I would check with some of these, chances are they have networking that can help you. Please feel free to PM me or ask any other question.
