Need IR-5 guidance, want to bring my parents to U.S.

Hey guys. I'm becoming a U.S. citizen in 2 weeks and want to start IR-5 process for my parents right after my oath ceremony. I've never involved laweyer/paralegal throughout the whole USCIS journey, so I'm not going to break that spirit now because of one simple reason, which is - VJ I'm happy to be over with my personal journey, but this upcoming one is even more important to me - bringing my parents to U.S. I know that probably 1000 people already asked the same questions, and trust me I went through a lot of threads, but there's are some misunderstanding that I need to cross of the list to be sure that everything is correct.

Can anyone please just break down the process from the scratch? As far as I know I have to fill out I-130 for my both parents, but I don't know what else do I have send? Is that what it takes to start the process?

P.S. My parents are currently overseas

Thank you for providing that link. I went through it before, but it doesn't answer my questions. What happens after it gets approved? Is it gonna be automatically transfered to NVC or do I have to apply separately?

I read your posts on N400 before. I just became a citizen not long ago. Just filed I-130 and got delivered yesterday.

Let`s see how it processes along the way. I`m really confused as well... lol

* yes uscis will forward it to NVC.. they will send u a notice that it has been approved..u can also check it tru uscis on your receipt no.

* then wait for your case no. about 6-8 weeks after they forwarded it to nvc.. call nvc @ 603-334-0700 it takes a lot of times to be connected.. once u got your case no. u can check the CEAC.STATE.GOV to fill up your ds-261 choice of agent and pay $88 for affidavit of support.

if theyve lived other countries they have to provide police clearance cert. if unobtainable u dont have to worry about it.just explain it to nvc.. good luck!

thats where i got all the requirements needed..it provided there.. just provide them photocopies not originals coz u will need the originals when u submit their civil documents..

Take one step at a time. Every case is different. Some people are super lucky to get their case approved by USCIS in just few weeks.

Once you obtain your naturalization send your I-130 along with the requirements and then take it from there.

Basically just send in the I-130 for now. It can take anywhere from a few months to more than a year to process and approve that form. There was a backlog of in excess of 500,000 petitions that they had to weed their way through, so although processing times are slightly better, you are still looing at approx. 1 year before your file is approved. After that, it will be sent to the National Visa Center where you will wait for a case number for about 6 weeks. Then you will fill in the choice of agent form (DS-261) send in the affidavit of support form with your financial support showing that you can financially sponsor your parents. you will pay a fee of $88 for both parents (1 fee covers both parents but each parent must have a separate form).

Once that is approved in approx. 3-4 weeks, you will be asked to submit the DS-260, fay the immigrant visa fee and civil documents which are the police certificates, birth, marriage certs etc. When all your docs are approved, you will get a case complete and interview date and they will then forward your case to the embassy where your parents will go for an interview.

That's it in a nutshell.

The best you can do is go on uscis web site and search over there
