Hi guys,

I am getting ready to order the Police certificate (in UK).

I have read on this page http://www.acro.police.uk/Police_Certificates_FAQs.aspx#I've_paid_too_much_for_my_Police_Certificate._Can_I_get_a_refund?

that if you OVERPAID for police certificate .... So, you can overpay some amount ???

What does it mean? How I can overpay for anything if the price is clear?

In application form (please see attachment) stated that Standard service cost £45.

What do they mean by overpayment? Could someone please clarify this?

Thank you so much

Yes, if you get the math wrong. The reason being is that you can pay more to get additional copies or an express service. I think it's £6 for an additional copy. So if you make your postal order out for the wrong amount because you can't add up, you'll overpay.

If it's under £10 they donate it to a charity. If over £10, they'll call you to talk about how you'd like it refunded.

Hi Shippingforecast :)

Thank you so much for you reply,

I am still confused. In PDF file (ACRO) it clearly states that:

Payment standard service is £45.00, and Premium Service £80.00. And then couple blocks lower: " If applicant overpays £10..."

Still confused how I can overpay? If I go to buy a gallon on milk (for example) and milk cost $5 per gallon I cannot overpay. Right?

If price for police certificate is clear why there is "overpayment deal".

I am very sorry for such question.

Still did not get it.

What is the price for certificate then? £45 ? What is overpayment then?

It's because you have to pay them before they process your application, and the amount you pay is dependent on what you request.

So for example if I ordered the standard service at £45 plus three additional copies at £6 each, that would be £45 + £18. So my total would be £63. I'd have responsibility for making sure my postal order was for £63.

If I didn't add it up properly and put, let's say, £65 on the order, they would just donate the extra £2 to charity. I guess it doesn't happen that often, but there are people that are unfortunately silly enough to not be able to add up their total amount properly. Similarly, if you underpay, say if I put £62 on my order, they'd call you to request the additional money needed to process your certificate.

There are a lot of dumb people who can't read the page and see the correct price. ACRO are posting their policy to those who make a mistake. No big deal.

You have the correct price figured out. £45. Carry on.

It should say "if you are stupid enough to send us too much money don't expect a refund and if you are so thick you don't send us enough , we won't process your application until you send us the right amount"

There you go - campaign for clear English version :-)

If I understand correctly I need only one copy of this police report (for K 1 visa). Am I right?

Yes you are right, make a couple of copies yourself. At interview they need sight of the original but will only keep a copy so make sure you take one. At medical they only need a copy.

Completely agree with this. Always get an extra copy of whatever document you require as a "just in case".

Guys, by copy you mean official copy (for £6) or print one copy myself (on the printer)?

Thank you

One official police certificate and photocopies for your records.

The clinic will make a photocopy if you take official certificate so you won't be leaving official there. They will accept photocopies also.

One official and one photocopy to interview. They may or may not give back official. People have had both experiences.

No need for police certificate for any further immigration purposes.

If you want a spare one to take to US, perhaps to show a potential employer your clean record, order a £6 extra official copy because the embassy may keep the original.
