uttarakhand compulsory marriage registration act (2010)

did anybody have their marriage registered under this act? and if so, did you have any problems with the NVC?

I'm trying to figure out why my original marriage certificate was rejected..

If your marriage was registered under this (relatively) new Uttarakhand Compulsory Marriage Registration Act (2010) then it is not only legal but also a legal requirement in the state of Uttarakhand. Note that under Hindu Marriage Act it is not an absolute requirement to register your marriage. But people who want to apply for Passport, Visa etc. frequently do so. A marriage registered under this act is deemed as registered under the Hindu Marriage Act. So US Consulate should accept this. Maybe you want to printout a copy of the statement the Act and send it to NVC along with the response to the Checklist.

Anyway, I am not a lawyer and don't want to pretend as one. This is what I found after asking some people.

Hi,

My husband and I married in Uttarakhand and had our marriage registered under this act. We were given no problems at the NVC. I assume you submitted your original issued from the registrar's office and not the Arya Samaj?

I am the petitioner.

yup, submitted the original from the registrar's office. hoping the supervisor rectifies this. sort of a bummer, didn't see this coming :wacko:
