Well, the wife and I submitted or ROC application this week. Seems like forever since we had to do immigration stuff. Stupid paper work and fees. Also got some bad news that may lead us to overseas adoption so we should be immigration lawyers before it's over :)

If you need a ROC to lean on, lean on us, Bro G.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

After everything else to me ROC seemed boring.

We've got friends (she's American, he's from HK but Indian) who adopted a son from Ethiopia and another son from China plus they have a little girl of their own. They just moved from Shanghai back to HK. If you guys decide to adopt here (China) please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I think adoption is one of the best things anyone can do, there are so many kids that need good homes...even if it's in Kentucky.

I thought the same thing. Poor kid, leaving the fast pace of the orient for laid back Kentucky. My dad said something about how we'd be saving a child in Korea. Then I said, well by saving you mean removing from a much better school/health care system and all around safer country, then I guess so.

You know I was kidding about Kentucky, I think it's a fine state with the finest whiskey (don't care for the fried chicken much).

Taking a kid out of an orphanage and providing a better life is a great thing, even from developed countries like Korea. We were working our way down that path when Jane got pregnant and to be honest we still may do it one day. I hope it's a smooth process for you guys, please keep us up to date!

We're thinking pretty much the same. There's still a few options on the table like donor eggs or a the long shot of a natural conception but yeah, I'm with you. Even if one of these work out, we may still look at adopting. We only really prefer international for my wife. She wants another Asian to be Asian with

Keep us updated on adopting from Korea. It's a road we may travel some day.

In other news (file all under: stressful), we find out today if Mr U got an interview the Y Combinator Fellowship program. 100 interviews granted out of 6,500 applications; 20 people get $12k, no strings attached. I'm totally nerve-wracked. I keep checking Twitter about every 10 minutes to see if anyone has received an invitation.

Also, my college BFF, who is pretty much a sister to me and another child to my parents, found out on Sunday that her long term boyfriend has been cheating on her for quite a while. When she confronted him about it, HE broke up with my friend (apparently he would have been okay if she just never found out?), told her to move out (she's not on the lease) and because he encouraged her to quit her soul-sucking job to follow her creative instincts, she's also unemployed. I want to kick him in the gut with an Ugg boot and rip his arms off. There aren't enough words banned by VJ to express what I think about him. She also can't go home because 1) both her parents died in the past year and 2) she gave up her rent-controlled apartment to go live with him and be happy for ever and ever.

Sorry, Maven. If anyone can be a good support for her, it's you.

That's how it starts...one Asian then two and next thing you know BAM you are eating with sticks. I hope it works out well for you guys, I'm excited to hear about the progress.

I'm just saying, your friend should really start listening to AC/DC...
