I need to have a moan. Mr U was laid off in March, when his company was shut down after being acquired by AT&T. He has spent a bit of time luxuriating in shiftless worklessness, but it's time to get a J-O-B. He had a great interview on Tuesday with a company that does much of the same sort of thing he has done for the past 8 years. They liked him, he liked them. His recruiter put in a salary bid only a bit over what he had been making before, and the company 1) said nope, we'll give him half of that (which is an insulting offer) and 2) offered him a role far junior than what he had interviewed for, and far junior than he was before being laid off. We agreed he should tell them to stuff it.

What makes me moan is that if he had taken this role we would have been able to finally move in together. We've been together four goddamn years, made the decision a year ago to move in together and still I have to go home every Sunday night. I see him Friday night, Saturday night and all day Sunday until 11 pm or thereabouts. Weeknights we talk on the phone for about 30 mins to an hour. My schedule is such that I cannot spare time during the week to see him, but if we were living together I could see him every night. I'm so effing sick of this situation and I can't make it any better until he has a job, because no landlord will let to us if he is unemployed. We live in the same town and yeah, it's nothing like being half a world away from your beloved, but I feel like some aspects of my life are on hold. I am so ready to be with this person now and it took me SO long to be ready to live with someone I love again.

Someone give me all the cheese because I am having ALL the whine....

Dude, that looks like the homeless encampment that sprang up overnight across from Mr U's apartment block. There are now two tents and three full shopping carts ON THE SIDEWALK. I am compassionate towards those who are homeless (like any good denizen of the muddy left ditch), but this is a public safety issue. People cannot walk on the sidewalk. Also, late last year, there was a murder on his block -- a homeless couple in another encampment (now cleared) stabbed a guy to death over drugs. This was 15 minutes before I arrived to spend the night at his place. The homeless population has exploded in the past year in LA -- up 7% I heard -- and encampments are now found in residential neighbourhoods all over the place. My compassion is wearing thin, because these people are too ill/ignorant/addicted/whatever to get the help that is offered to them (including psychiatric and addiction counselling). The homeless organisations hand out tents (85% increase in number handed out over last year) out of compassion but we have to live with the consequences of encampments.

Do I get to be a Republican now?

As for the KBBQ we've got some killer spots here in our hood and we have been getting down on them frequently as of late. I can't get enough of that stone pot rice dish whatever it's called, it is just full of yummy goodness. I'm glad ours aren't AYCE I might split a gut.

Happy Friday Losers! It's my last day of work before vacay! Wifey and I got a sweet waterfront pad on Sebago Lake in Maine for the week! Plenty of good eatin, booze, fishing and relaxation on the horizon! I can't wait to stuff my face with a huge lobstah roll!
