I am going here tonight with Mr U: http://www.lawrysonline.com/lawrys-primerib/beverly-hills?typ=full

I cannot wait! My Juicy sweats will be stretched at the seams afterwards.

Oh Mama that place looks great! It's 8am and you've got me wanting a ribeye steak and baked potato! That "spinning salad" sounds like it could be an adventure.

I slipped into a meat coma shortly after coming home from Lawry's. I had the prime rib with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and creamed spinach. There were two types of horseradish (I went for the thermonuclear) and some amazing fresh sourdough bread. There was no room for dessert. :( The spinning salad was delicious and sort of hilarious to watch being assembled. Only one of the party of five had a lobster tail and she pronounced it outstanding. Even though it wasn't cheap, it was very good value for money. And it's nice to dress up once in a while and act like adults. :)

Last night I had this at the 24 hour Korean diner (I snagged a pic from elsewhere):

Ok, speaking of food. My wife and I found a Shanghainese restaurant (not that difficult here in Shanghai) that is ridiculous. A, it's only 3 blocks and well within walking range of expectant mother. B, the food is spectacular, it's fresh and amazingly well prepared. C, great atmosphere, which in China can be hard to find especially at dinner time (drinking, smoking and general merriment not conducive with the human gestational process). And finally....D, the price is unbelievably low for a sit down restaurant. Last night we had 4 dishes with rice and it was equivalent to $8.12. I'd like to invite you all out for a meal if you are in our neighborhood.

On the walk home we passed a bus stop advertisement that I had seen before. Picture of a white woman laying peacefully with a white baby, baby wearing a t-shirt with American flag and underneath says 'Made in America'. I asked Jane what the ad was for and she didn't want to tell me but I insisted. It was for birth tourism. Have your baby in the US as it is the fastest way to get a green card. Stay in a luxurious B&B in Los Angeles and have your baby in a 5 star US hospital and your baby will automatically be a US citizen. The company is called East West Baby, www.huameibb.com. I you not.

Next time we're in Shanghai, we're on. It's on our travel bucket list. I want the Mr to see the land of his fathers first in Korea, but since his family came to Seoul in the 50s from North Korea... maybe not so easy.

Speaking of North Korea, we keep meaning to go to this bar that has a portrait of Kim Jung Il prominently displayed on the frontage (with Kim Dae-jung):

Anthony Bourdain went there as well (of course): http://www.travelchannel.com/shows/the-layover/video/la-s-koreatown

Sweet! Should be nice and steamy in July!

Is this your first trip?

To Korea, yes. I've been to HK once before and the wife was born there. Last time we went it was this time of year and yeah, it was really hot.

Thanks! We're headed to Canada to visit Wifey's family. Always a good time they're a fun lot! We'll hit the road around 4am Sat morning and should be in Oakville, CA by 1pm. 2 Days in Oakville to visit her Sister, then it's 4 hours down to Windsor for the rest of the week.

Enjoy your time in CT and with your Mom as well!

I miss a good road trip, in fact I kind of miss having a car.

I use to travel to Windsor quite often for business, cool little city. I remember some good restaurants and I heard they had some nice strip clubs but I have no first hand knowledge of that. The other thing I liked about it was that it was separated from Detroit by a river and a border crossing. Have fun!

Thanks man!

Windsor is a great city. It's clean, the people are polite and there are some really good restaurants. There is a small section in East Windsor around Erie St. that reminds me a bit of the North End in Boston. It has some nice little shops and some really good Italian restaurants.

We always try to stop off in Oakville which is about an hour north of Niagara Falls on the bottom of Lake Ontario. That's where my wife and I first met and her sister lives in Burlington which is the next town over. Oakville is a quaint little town with some really cool locally owned shops on the strip along Lakeshore Rd. We usually spend a few hours walking the strip and stop for something to eat. We always walk down to Lake Ontario and the Oakville yacht club to check out the boats.
