After I got out of the Marine Corps I didn't put any effort into actively maintaining my fitness (translate: I started treating my body like a tent instead of a temple). Fast forward 15 years and I was told by my doc that I was approaching obese (#######) so I immediately switched from beer to whiskey.

In all honesty now that I don't have a car and I figure I'm walking on average at least 4 miles a day the lbs are dropping off. I'm really amazed. I don't think I'll be running any triathlons with G any time soon but my kids have even noticed when I facetime them. I guess I can go back to beer now!!!!!

I think it just goes to show that a little effort and better lifestyle choices would make folks a lot healthier.

Si, man.

Here is a no-no:

Wife: Honey, does this dress make me look fat?

You: No, the dress doesn't make you look fat -- you ARE fat.

Running is really all I do. I'm gearing up for a half marathon now (my first) so the miles are getting higher and higher. I'm following the schedule to meet my under two hour goal but it's hard. All the training has me running really really slow. I'm not used to it and I don't know how my 10:27 practice pace is going to translate to a 8:55 race day pace. But you know, they have theses schedules for a reason. I guess worst case is I'm slower than I wanted to be. Getting into 4 day workout weeks now. And it sucks. And I cannot stress enough how much I hate the treadmill. I love being outside and it seems much easier. Oh well, I guess I'll keep catching up on breaking bad.

G, after your done running the marathon you can rehydrate with a tall glass of Sam Adams 26.2 Boston Brew!

Well, I'm just gonna do a half, so if it goes well I'll try for a full. Then I may be worthy of the beer. BTW, Karee and I used to talk. He started out walking a few times a week and eventually moved into a bit of running. He had finished at least one half marathon last time I talked to him.

We drank this last year after the Boston Marathon.

It seems that the Sam Adams do not sell them in cans countrywide, only special brew for the marathon.

I miss Karee, wish he was still around. I got talkin to him about the diet and exercise thing about a month ago when he came back as "Lost In AK", he said he lost a bunch of weight and quit smokin as well.

On a side note, I've lost 20lbs so far, 2/3 of the way to my goal of 30lbs. I wanted to lose 30lbs by summer, I'm a bit ahead of schedule and might go for 40. If I make it to 40, I'll be at the same weight as when I graduated High School of 205lbs.

Yes, Sam Adams only makes the 26.2 around marathon time. This years batch just came out this week, it was on the news this morning. I don't really care for Sam Adams, it's too heavy for me. The Sam Adams Light is good though. Do you come to Boston for the marathon every year?

My hubs ran Boston marathon last year. It was a special year since the bombing.

I do know people who run Boston marathon every year as long as they meet the qualifying time.

It is too expensive to go to Boston marathon every year ;) , unless you live there.

I've lived in Mass my whole life of almost 52 years and I've never been to a marathon. I never got into it all that much.

eh - i had a house on the route for the Houston Marathon for 5 years - I threw outrageous 'support' parties the day of the race, man I miss those days.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Do you know what his finish time is?

Do you know what his finish time is?

About 3 hours 2 min.

He was hoping to complete below 3 hours.

He was doing great for the 25 ++ miles. I saw him at the heartbreak hill.

Then he ran out of energy at the last mile. Literally collapsed at the finish line (saw on the video afterward).

The bad thing about these huge marathon events is that you have to zig-zag around the slower runners and it is time / energy consuming.

Three thumbs up, man, high in the air.

Has the continuous snow-removal helped with the losing?

Thanks T-Bone!

Yes the snow removal has definitely helped. That's a lot of extra exercise that I probably would not have gotten. I'm shooting for 40lbs total by June 26th. Wifey and I have rented a lakefront house in Maine for that week and I want to look my best in my Speedo. :energy:
