I probably have mentioned this website ad nauseum in other threads over the past 2 years. But since someone else brought up a book on the Middle East, I thought I'd post it again (not having found the older thread).

Interlink Publishing Changing the way people think about the world.

They have a lot of books about various ME/NA topics but here are a few to pique the interest:

"Palestine: A Guide", by Mariam Shahin (photos and maps; historic sites, foods, costumes, arts, traditions of the Palestinians)

"Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Primer" by Phillis Bennis

"Iraq: A War", intro by Chris Hedges, photos by Associated Press

"The War on Truth: 9/11, Disinformation, and the Anatomy of Terrorism" by Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed

"Homes of the Heart: A Chronicle of Ramallah", by Farouq Wadi

How about some fiction/literature:

"My Grandmother's Cactus: Stories by Egyptian Women"

"The Abductor", by Leila Marouane (Algeria)

"Samarkand" by Amin Maalouf (Lebanon)

"Cages on Opposite Shores", Janset Berkok Shami (Turkey)

"A Woman of Five Seasons" by Leila al-Atrash (Palestine)

"The Secret Life of Saeed" by Emile Habiby (Israel)

This is just a sampling of what they offer . . . they have poetry, cookbooks, humour, folk tales, travel, history/current affairs, fiction, art, children's books, gift books . . . hey, I have some of these, hehe, "Ottoman Embroidery", "Tribal Rugs", "Serpent of the Nile"

AND, apropos of the "learning arabic discussion, a couple of books on learning arabic.

There are so many books that I need to read!!! Must keep the mind agile!

I highly reccomend Queen Noor's "Leap of Faith, memoirs of an unexpected life". The book has alot of political and historical content that is not expected, its a great read and definitly on my top ten list!

We should have a VJ MENA Book club. I love to read but it sucks when you don't have anyone to talk to about the book... :(

Either we could do a poll with maybe 5 choices or we could each take turns choosing one?

It will need to be a book that we can all get . . . order from Amazon or the link I used above . . . there are lots of books listed there (which could probably be ordered thru Amazon too).

OK, but is anyone else interested?
