I was gonna respond in kind but I am better than that.

I thought we were making fun of where everyone's from!

Who knows man. I've been here for 10 years almost and I started as a co-op. Initially my job was very simple, then more responsibility/pay on and on and on and now I'm responsible for a lot of #######. At this job, they couldn't beat me for sure, at least not until I give up. Here I'm kinda of a jack of all trades and on the open market its hard to compete against the specialists. I have lots of active directory/security ####### experience but can I beat out someone that only works with that stuff? Prob not.

Yeah, my employer does the same with us. We get spread thin doing a bunch of things here too. I phone interview from time to time just for fun (mostly) and I always find most large corporations have a person just does one thing, all the time. Hard to compete.

when I was The company IT guy, I had to have a little knowledge of everything and never had time to become an expert at anything, where in a very large enterprise they have specialist that do nothing but administer one platform or specialty. Being a smaller company Admin is like being a combat Medic. Man we I first got Exchange server thrown at me LOL

Thing is all users expect you to know everything. I could get off the wall "How do I" questions about excel and they expect an immediate answer.

Funny I just posted the same thing..... I was a one man band in about a 55 node netwrok

I was expected to fix all issues with Exchange, now every answer to every Microsoft office question, Fix all errors with and set up the WMS and ERP System, be an EDI expert. Control how my company ranked in google listings. It never ended

I was literally asked how to call Mexico earlier. I told them to open internet explorer, type www.google.com in the address bar and hit enter. In the text box under google, type in exactly what you just asked me and hit enter. Then click on the first link.

I've spent the last hour writing out PO's for ####### people want. I still wouldn't want a job where I was the "exchange guy" or "phone guy" I feel like I'd get really bored.

So how is it you ended up unemployed?

I was in Operations management from bout 1987-2000. Being a Geek at the time i went back to school and git a bunch of It certs MCSE,CCIP,A+ etc etc and an assocs in IT. When the company I was working for closed, I got a job as an asst Network admin. Quickly became the only admin when the boss quit.

In 2004 they asked for some opinions and consulting on running their plant operations. They never let me go back and I was Operations manager from 2004-2013 Of course my skill set went to zero after 9 years as a user. 2013 Office politics became un-bearable and I quit. Have not worked since, except a brief job over the holidays as a Fedex driver, I took out of boredom. Big mistake LOL

Of course I could not draw un-employment because I got one year severance pay plus exit bonus paid at end of severance pay. Hopefully unemployment is about to kick in.

Of course you would no, just as un-employment is about to kick in, a local manufacturer is trying to talk me into coming to work for them. I may. I am giving them the opportunity to interview me next week.

I know this. I was just saying it so people will not equate my posting of the article to my personal ideology.

This comment was not necessarily for you. You are actually the first person I have EVER heard say this. I thought it interesting being that I have always heard the opposite. This is the only way my comment should be taken. Nothing more and definitely nothing personal against your comment.

Ok, I thought you might be implying I'm a racist. I have been falsely accused of that in the past. After all, how could I be racist, I'm in an inter racial marriage, am i right???
