Calling DOS and Holding time

Is it normal to be on hold for over 30 minutes? Right now it has been ~ 34 minutes that I'm on hold.

Trying to call the DOS 202-485-7600 to find out if an interview date has been assigned for my fiance. I called around 4:40 pm their time in Washington D.C.

Does anyone know what would be the best time to try to reach them?


Our visa was last updated on May 19th, after his medical was completed. Kind of thought it'd be the right time to call them now.

I just made the same call earlier today. And dos can not help. The say to call the embassy. Our status changed on the 16th and we have not gotten the interview letter yet. dos can not help might as well hang up made the same call about 4 hours ago.

Yes, I hung up after 50 minutes...

So if DOS cannot help or give out this information and the London Embassy doesn't take inquiry, so does that mean the only option we have is just to wait for the letter?

Because I've read that sometimes people never received their letter or if they did sometimes the interview date had passed already.

It would be nice ahead of time to know when the interview will be.

I agree it would be nice. I talked with my fiancee to day and she said if we don't get the letter by the Friday post for her she will try working her way through the Embassy phone tree to see if she can get an answer. We are already going to miss our first planned wedding date. We have a back up but no way she will make it for the first one. Will let you know what we find out on Fri. Like I said we were updated on the 16th of may and nothing beyond that. Hoping for a letter soon.

I see! I suppse the NVC wouldn't know until at least 4 weeks or so either.

It's actually a shame that DOS stopped. If you approached them with the right attitude, were prepared with a specific question and had all the information necessary for them to release that information to you, they were very helpful.

This is so frustrating. So I just spoke to my fiance and apparently he probably hasn't filled the Notice of Readiness form yet. He has done the DS-160.

If he hasn't done that, would the Status on CEAC even update (even if he had his medical)?

I agree. I was ready to be cordial and had a specific question in mind. It is a bit nerve wracking. as My Fiancee had a little issue with the 160. She thinks it is all ok but there is that 2 percent chance there is an issue. She has the barcoded receipt but there is a question in her mind. Have tried the e-mail route with the embassy but no luck so far.

I assume you'll probably hear back from the Embassy before we do since your status was updated 3 days earlier. It is definitely nerve wracking when it comes to mailing documents due to my own experience.

From what I understand Yes that would update but till they get the readiness form they wont send you an interview letter. That form lets them know you have everything ready for the interview. We filled ours in when we submitted the packet 3 as we had it all together and we were just waiting on her medical and it took her med a bit longer as she needed a letter from her doctor.

London Embassy is pretty notorious for not responding to email inquiries.

Well, apparently my fiance definitely hasn't done the Readiness form because he's still waiting on the UAE police certificate which they indicated that he should have gotten it within 1-2 months. It's been basically 2 months since the end of March and we haven't heard anything from them.

So I don't know what else to do. My fiance sent the Embassy in London an email and all they replied back was that to gather all needed documents and bring them to the interview. Doesn't really specifically address out situation.

On top of that, the documents and papers I sent for Affidavit of Support were dated middle of March. Do they have a time frame of validity on these letters/docs?

The date on the 134 I do not think will matter much. At least it is not a year out of date. As for the interview letter I am not sure if that e-mail is true then all he needs is to take that info to the interview. Hopefully he will have it when his interview is up or the might postpone the interview. I think you will just have to wait and see about a letter for the date. It may not come till you submit that form.

The Immigrant Visa Unit is processing the Notification of Applicant's Readiness forms received on or before May 27
Last week it said May 22
