I wish it were actually that simple.

I can remember three of my dad's sisters (and their children) and parents hounding me about socialising with non-Hindus (until Oct. 1994, I was a Hindu; I became a Christian then) or different caste people during 1976 and 1983 visits to India. Unfortunately, my mum would not let me simply avoid them using the excuse "they haven't seen you in a long while" (in reality, their conduct made it obvious that the "didn't miss you in the least" feeling was mutual).

Even last May, Pras made the mistake of talking about "spending some quality time" with my dad's siblings (the three abovementioned sisters, and earlier-mentioned brother)--fortunately, their being in a hurry to leave (due to having a hired vehicle--where you pay for the driver's time) got me out of it (spending 3-plus hours--the duration of the engagement ceremony--in a suit in Chennai's heat is hardly conducive to "spending quality time" afterwards).

At the least I am glad to have geographical (and timezone) separation to explain paucity of contact other than on visits to India.

I've learned that family blood does not necessarily mean that you are tied to that person forever. There are members of my family that have hurt me various ways that I simply refuse to talk to. If we have a big family function and they are there, I make sure I'm unavailable to talk to them.

You may not be able to chose your family but you can certainly chose who you surround yourself with. Fortunately your immediate family is supportive of your choices. But when it comes right down to it, all that ultimately matters is what you and your guy think and feel about one another. It's your life and you are the one who has to live it , not them. I wish you two nothing but joy and happiness. By the way, you two make an adorable couple Best wishes for your life together

gotta agree with all here, you are able to choose who you surround yourself with, and obviously they WONT be on your list. Your Mom supports your decision and you yourself know exactely what you are stepping into, so thats all that matters.

Love isnt dictated by the colour of ones skin, I for one wish ppl could see that, but then there will always be idiots walking this planet, thinking the are and know better....

As for the ranting, isnt that why we are here?! You just go on right ahead and rant, if it lets off some steam!

Its sad to think, but look at ppl around you and look at TV shows etc... I think the interracial relationships will always be something someone will comment on, but I wouldnt let that stop anyone!

It just sucks that people can't accept people for the colour of their skin!! As for my parents, they just love Roshon to pieces so that is all that matters to me!!! I mean even if they had a problem with it (I knew they wouldn't) it would be something they'd have to deal with!!

I hate that dam word. I was not brought up to be racist and neither were my sons.

My oldest son's girlfriend is bi-racial. He wouldnt be able to handle living here where I am now. I here that word way to often down here. It just turns my stomach to think that people think they are better than another race. Get over the dam slavery days for heavens sake. People are people not matter what colour they are. I really hate when someone offends another based on there skin colour. To me it just shows how rude they are, and STUPID.

Its that way here in Georgia too...my ex is very much a racist. He uses that word frequently. I never liked it, never have and never will. A person's skin colour has nothing AT ALL to do with them as a person. I hate it that you've had to experience such stupidity and shallowmindedness. Joel and I will encourage Anna to be open minded, to not judge a person because of their skin colour or even their ethnicity.

Racism will never die out I'm afraid....sigh
