Marriage Record vs Solemization of Marriage

Hi Everyone,

I am just wondering if the USCIS accepts the Solemnization of Marriage paperwork issued at time of the ceremony to file for CR-1 or do I need to wait the 6-8 weeks and then request the record of marriage with the Canadian province that the marriage occurred in?

You will need a certified copy of the Provincial document, so you can file a photocopy of it with the petition. If you do not do so, they will request it later on, delaying your petition approval. Usually this delay is a week or so to get the request by mail, until a week or so after they receive your response but we have seen delays that are much longer. Best to wait for the Certified Copy from the Province, IMO.

They do not accept it. I just got an RFE for sending this very thing. You should know the record of solemnization is the same thing as a record of marriage(well it is here in Canada. USCIS is looking for the registration of your marriage.

They are not looking or a souvenir from the ceremony. They are looking for copy of a public record, which can only be obtained AFTER the marriage is a matter of public record, from the government agency that holds the actual record.
