Hello, I am new in this group and this is will be my first topic I am gonna post. Yesterday May 27 (Philippines Time) my Mom had her medical exam in St Lukes, unlucky due to her blurry X-ray result they scheduled her for sputum test on June 10,11 and 13. I do appreciate a lot if you guys advice me what should my Mom do/prepare before her sputum test? She lives in Cebu and just flew there for her medical exam. She is 67 yrs old but she is very active. Hope I can hear from you guys. God Bless..

Most people referred to sputum are negative. Sorry she has to do this and get such a long delay, but I hope at least they find out she does not have this dreaded disease and that will be the end of it. And if she does have it, consider that it is a good thing they found out and can treat her. Untreated TB kills.

The sputum screen is an unfortunate delay in the visa process for your mom. Hopefully, the test will be negative and your mom can join you soon.

Relax, don't stress... if the sputum tests come back negative all is good and get ready for the interview. If the test is positive be glad it was found as TB kills, then prepare for the 6 months of DOT at SLEC, which sort of sucks as you have to stay in the Manila area but the big plus is the TB was caught and cured.

Not true. I have a friend who did that before his medical and he still ended up with a suspicious xray and did the 8-week sputum culture.

Its a myth.

I second that. Drinking that stuff, while maybe good for your health, will not alter the results of either the xray or the sputum.

Thank you a lot guys!! She's been drinking bear brand sterilized since last week pa. I talked to her last night I know she was disappointed but I know she tried to hide it which I understand and felt sorry for my Mom. Well, we still have to beg and pray more and more to God :-) Fighting!!!

PS. Has anyone of you tried to see a dr or your parents before the sputum test in Manila?

At this point there really is no reason to try to fool the test anyway. She is stuck with sputum and the 8 week delay no matter what preparation she does. If at the end of that delay the test is negative, that would be wonderful. But if it is not, the treatment will not only get her to pass the test; it will save her life.

It is not worth dying to get to the United States 6 months sooner than she otherwise would.
