South Korea introduces female-only parking spaces — they're larger, with pink outlines and a miniskirt logo

South Korea introduces female-only parking spaces — they're larger, with pink outlines and a miniskirt logo Capital city Seoul has painted ‘lady-friendly’ spots reserved exclusively for female drivers, has repaved some of its sidewalks with squishy, high heel-friendly material and installed women-only toilets as part of a nearly $700 million push.
Practical or patronizing?
South Korea is spending mega-money on creating larger car parking spaces for women. Capital city Seoul is introducing "lady-friendly" spots reserved exclusively for female drivers, the Korea Times reports.Wider and longer than regular spots, they will be closer to elevators and marked out with pink mini-skirted logos. It's not yet known, however, if men will be fined if busted for using them.
Korea Times reports the initiative is part of a nearly $700 million push to make the metropolis more female-friendly over four years. Other projects include installing 7,000 new women-only toilets, and the resurfacing of some sidewalks with a squishy material to help those wearing high heels. "It is like adding a female touch to a universal design and make things more comfortable for women," Assistant Mayor for Women and Family Affairs Cho Eun-hee told the Korea Times.

Hmm, well I will paraphrase the language in the landmark Supreme Court Case Brown v Board of Ed (1954 I believe):

Separate is inherently unequal.

This seems silly. Just make the car park spaces bigger for all genders.

And in this day and age not all high heel wearers are female. So yes it is sexist. LOL

if these are bigger, how much smaller are the other parking spots?

I do however support the notion for bigger restrooms for women to accommodate more stalls. You guys got nature's short stick in that department [pun intended].

The spaces, dubbed ‘she-spots’, are longer and wider – 8ft 2.5in rather than 7ft 6.5in – than standard and are marked with bright pink outlines and a female logo.

What nicer way is there to say "You are weak and have no stamina or bladder control... oh and you are a crappy driver that can't park" ??

I could buy-off on the closer to elevators and doors deal if sold as a safety issue.. and I like the spongy sidewalk idea. Good for the back..

I would worry if there are 10-15 of these parking spots in a row that it might be a gathering spot for criminals... and what if there are three females and one male in the car? Does it require 100% females or just > 0% to take advantage of the parking spot?

On a separate note I thank women everywhere for forcing the hotel industry to put in those curvy shower curtains so that the curtain doesn't rise up and touch you during hot showers.. I found that equally gross.

Women did this? The trick is to stick the curtain to the bath with a little water power. Strong surface tension and all.

I was listening to an NPR show some time back that was interviewing representatives from the hotel industry and how they were trying to cater to the female business traveler. When asked what concrete steps they had implemented they all mentioned the curved shower curtain bar.
