Why do you wonder that? is that relevant in some way? Cultural differences are the route to this eveil, nothing to do with whether they belong to one religion or another. There are no US religious adherents of any denomination who advocate stoning, well not that I am aware of and yet all religious denominations are represented here, in quite significant numbers. Perhaps that tells you something, but likely not.

The only known deity that allegedly condoned the stoning of women is the god of Abraham, who, according to scripture, is the one true e and only god; worshiped by jews, chrsitians and muslims.

Ok, sorry, misread it. There wasn't a magic wand of enlightenment in Europe either, it has been a long and bloody road. Women are only just accepted as equals in European society, they were enfranchised in the mid 1900's and have only been accepted in the work place for 60 years. That's not exactly speedy progress now is it?

no prob.. I had to go back and make sure I had not put entitlement just to be sure :) but yes Right.. That was what I meant that there is no way to just apply it (no magic wand). It is hard to give the "it will take time" answer since it means more people suffering but some things take time.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

OK, got it. Yep, you are right, it does take time, and access to education for girls is a great way to start the wheels turning.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

One thing we need to remember is that in only some 50 years ago, in the US, the most advanced and powerful nation on the planet, women were little less than 2nd class citizens, available to be harassed sexually, treated as inferiors in the workplace, paid less than their male counterparts and be denied the right to have a family and a career if they so wished, their needs and desires taking a back seat to that of their husbands.

Even today, we have the American equivalent of the stoners in Lahore who devise laws to try and curtail women's rights to their own bodies and reproduction. No, we certainly do not throw stones at women in the US. We throw a lot of jury rigged legislation to keep them in their place, instead.

Women still a long way to go on that journey...

That changed with Jesus. Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.

No it did not. I oftentimes see alleged christians casting stones at other religions. They even cast stones at muslims, who worship the very same god they do...

The irony is they don't realize that by deriding islam or judeism they deride their own religion.

Then they are not true followers of Jesus.

And they exist in all religions... Seriously, how many flavors of christianity are there in the US alone? It is a frigging buffet!

There is only one true one. I heard the Pentecostal preacher on TV say so. Said all them there churches that watered down the word was sending folks to hell

I have heard shat loads of those self inflated blow hards allude to the fact there Church was the only one giving the true word
