I hope you see the humor in this.

And, by the way, I kind of wish you wouldn't bring my wife into this.

Sorry, you brought your wife into this when you were talking about if someone came into a restaurant.

I mean no offense to you at all.

Dang it. I did mention her.

Well, let me rephrase. I wish you wouldn't bring my wife into this just because I did it first.

Sorry you believe Al Sharpton speaks for all black people.

Another blind generalization that is meaningless.

Did I say Al speaks for ALL blacks? You said it so you could spew more #######. Its sad to see some here, hear or see an instance of something and then try to make it a global catastrophe.

Your implication that he was watching too much Al Sharpton speaks for itself.

Why would you imply he watches Al Sharpton?

Legitimate question. :content:

All right, I have a question. This guy was online and people online knew of his youtube videos; someone posted a thread he participated in.

What can people on the internet do when they see things like this?

To be honest, when I hear of mass shootings and crimes and things, I sometimes wonder if someone on VJ did it.

Here we are in the other thread, arguing that VJ should not be a platform for racism, where others are arguing that it is just "different opinions" that people have.

People with opinions like the killer's won't change their mind, so does giving them a voice strengthen their resolve?

But Al didn't report this. And when you're writing in a journal about ugly black kids, it kind of fits, no?

Free speech is tricky. I've said this before, racism in today's world isn't what it used to be. Now it's private thoughts or opinions.

vj is just going to be a platform for acceptably veiled racism, same as it is a platform for acceptably veiled misogyny - same as the internet in general.

some people tried to do something with what they saw on the internet, to get help. i know his parents did and that is more important than the internet factor. it's hard to tell, in the internet, when someone is actually unstable.

end of the day, you're not going to get a racist fool on vj to admit they're racist because more often than not they don't actually believe they are.

what's more striking to me is that this thread instantly went to race and the same discussion we've had a billion times about incarceration rates and profiling but no one took a step back and thought about all the objectification of women that goes on here daily. not even as a friggin side thought.

anybody go to church this weekend and sniff out some loose hallelujah?

You're right. This was equally bad for women as well. Sorry Val.

You are right that people that know the person are the ones that need to act. But, something sickens me about engaging with someone like this on the internet. If we were talking to these people in person, the behavior would be different, and I don't think many of us would engage with the person on the level we see on a forum.

I do see many people frustrated with racist and misogynist thinking online, but there seems there is nothing to do except get pot shots in. The whole internet itself is a means for these people to find eachother and justify their thoughts in a weird vacuum. And I don't like that.

sure, this kid was racist, but racism wasn't his motivation. so why is his racism even up for debate? shouldn't it matter more that a certain section of underbelly in white male america feels justified and driven to retaliate against women for their personal rejections? there were dudes rooting for the guy in one forum i read, plenty of likes for the elliot rodger fanpage, this tells me there are plenty of guys out there who believe women should be punished for simply having vaginas that they didn't share. it's obvious he went way beyond holding unfavorable views towards women, but calling out white women who go out with black men is a small wave in a sea of psycho.
