I know if my husband has a Green Card he can't get Medicaid for I think it's 10 years, but if we didn't have over $2,000, could I (US citizen) and our US citizen children get it? How about other public assistance like food stamps and HEAP, and emergency assistance for rent? Could I apply for it and get it in my name? Or if I'm married to a Green Card holder would they not give it to me?

I'm a USC living in the UK with my UKC husband, planning on getting him his Green Card by DCF London, looking at our options! We'd come over with our savings to live off of for hopefully renting a room and living expenses like food and car, so would have more than $2000 at first. But once that gets under $2000 and runs out...?

You need to meet the poverty guidelines to be able to sponsor your Husband.

Look at the chart here.
