Thinking of getting an MP3 player. Help me choose?

I have an old CD style MP3 player and want to upgrade for the flight to PI next month. First of all, can I bring it onboard now? If so I have been looking at these two. Which one do you recommend? Is there others at this price range you would recomend? I will probably want to buy a charger since I can't be assured of getting to a computer while in Manila.

Buy the more expensive one, it has to be better quality!!!

What restriction are you referencing about MP3 players and airlines?

For a while they didn't allow electronic devices after that scare in London. I already found from the TSA's web site that they are allowed again.

I want to keep the total cost including a charger and case to less than $200. I also want to maximize the storage size. I don't care at all if it can play movies. I have a 12 gig music collection on my computer. I just want something I can transfer my songs to and listen.

Well, although you don't need the video capability, it appears the second choice has significantly more capabilities, for only $10 more. I would choose that one.

By the way, have a wonderful and safe trip to the PI!!

I thought about going withe the nano. The 4 gig version is about $190 but after getting a charger and case that runs it up above the $200 mark. The 2 gig version isn't big enough. I have a 28 hour from take-off to landing trip each way. I want to take more of my songs than that.

I've got the ipod 4 gig (in pink of course) and I really really love it (except for the headphones which I hate and can't use). Not sure about the two that you linked.

Good luck finding one that will work best for you.

And have a safe and wonderful trip!!

:)

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

A few years back, I bought a Creative Zen with 40 GB hard drive for about the same price I could have gotten a 2 GB IPod. I've never had a problem with it and it still works great. I paid less than 200 for it. Sure, it doesn't say Apple on it and it doesn't come in ULTRA LIME GREEN, but if you want nice value and a good product, see what you can get from Creative for the same price before committing to a more expensive, smaller hard drive IPod.

I don't see the Zen 40GB version but the 30GB version does come in lime green!

I just found this. It already has the charger and it will have 8GB of storage on a HD. Anyone have one of these?

I don't see where it mentions a charger... I am looking for an MP3 player myself. I feel you on those killer 20+ hour flights to Asia - I've got one coming up to see my sweetie in May :)

I have a sony HD (not the one linked), had it for a few years now. I find it's a good little player, only problem with it, I had to download all cd's into the sony software (sonic stage etc) then download all the songs onto the HD. Very time consuming.

Another downfall for it, once you download onto HD you cannot transfer to any other pc except the one you originally downloaded the cd's on to. It's a rather long winded task.

I haven't read the specs for the one you linked, but as it's sony it may be the same etc.

Hope this helps.

You said you have 12 GB of music...why even buy one of those? You can get so much more for the money. I filled up my 40GB easy and I don't even have all my music on there.
