I didn't expect Ethiopia for my state. I can't recall I've ever met someone from Ethiopia. Then again, I don't get out much.

I would've guessed Brazil for Mass, but I get the Dominican Republic too. We have a very large contingent of Dominicans here.

But the map is for legal immigrants. The majority of Brazilians in MA aren't legal.

But I'll bet that the largest group of immigrants is from Brazil.

... in Wyoming, Filipino immigration was at the top in 2012. But consider the fact that the state only granted legal residency to 427 people total. California, on the other hand, allowed in 196,000 new foreign residents.

The author of this piece seems to think states grant LPR status and can allow or disallow LPRs from living there.

I read this to mean that 'in this count' - they counted illegal aliens as well.
