Police: Man slain by fellow robber in northwest Dallas

One man shot and killed another while they were attempting a robbery early Sunday in northwest Dallas.

Dallas police arrested 23-year-old Exzadrian Oneal Jefferson Sunday and charged him with the murder of Willie Brightmon.

Just after 4 a.m., Brightmon and Jefferson walked up to three people sitting in a parking lot drinking. Brightmon pointed a gun and them and tried to pull the trigger but the weapon malfunctioned, police said.

The witnesses tried to gain control of the gun during a fight with Brightmon and Jefferson.

During the battle for the gun, a shot was fired and Brightmon was struck in the chest. He died later at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Later on Sunday, Jefferson turned himself into police. He admitted pulling the trigger, police said.

A 25-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday during a robbery attempt in northwest Dallas.

Willie Brightmon was slain by another person that police say he was committing the robbery with in the 9500 block of Brockbank Drive, according to a Dallas police report.

Jefferson has pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor burglary charges, a misdemeanor theft case, a misdemeanor marijuana charge and a misdemeanor trespassing case, according to court records. His probation was revoked on a felony robbery case. He has one pending felony drug charge and a pending misdemeanor theft case.
