Hey guys, me again :)

I am kinda concerned and will tell you why.

We are April fillers and USCIS received our files April 9th. I had my biometrics takes may 13. Now I saw someone with the VERY same dates whos status already changed to ''testing and interview'' and even received a interview date just a couple days later. My question is: Why is our case different? USCIS received our files at the very same time and our case is still in ''acceptance''.

I know that it can take up to a month for the status to change.

Does it ALWAYS change to 'testing and interview'' or does it sometimes/often stay in acceptance until they decide to waive it or not. When should I receive the status change notice?

The reason for me being so impatient is the following. I want to enlist into the military and I have talked to several recruiters who more than gladly would recruit me since I speak 4 languages and this skill is high on demand in the military. The only thing I need ist a GC. A work permit is not enough.

So guys, does it always stay change to interview and testing? Or can it possibly stay in acceptance for MONTHS? :(

My AOS took about 8-9 months but then I didn't have an interview and that was about 2 years ago. I wouldn't be concerned - you've waited for less than 2 months and yes it sucks that you can't do the job you want to until you get it but maybe you can find something else until GC arrives - with 4 languages you'd probably also be an asset to a normal business...

We sent my husband's AOS in January and his status still says "acceptance" and we've already done the biometrics and gotten a letter about an interview waiver. I was talking to one guy on here and his status never changed from acceptance until the day before he got his card. They don't update the website as often as they should. But you are still in for at least a 7 to 9 months wait. Sorry. :(

When I moved to the US 6 years ago I spoke to a couple of recruiters. I had explained to both of them that I was here on a visa and they told me that of I were to were to ever go through AoS then I should let them know because the Army could expedite it. I don't know how true this was but you could look into that.

Also, my aunt was a LPR when she joined the Army. She was sworn in as a US Citizen IN AFGHANISTAN!

Dang, so it can stay in 'acceptance' for long. I have only waited 2 months but there are people that got their interview letter in less than 2 weeks after biometrics.

I did talk to a bunch of recruiters and talked about ANY kind of program. (unfortunately) there is no such thing as speeding up the AOS process. The military does not care how long it takes you.

@MichelleNGeroge: 1. never compare your case with anyone's. That's vague...every case is different, every office is different, hence your time will not reflect others, as well as others won't reflect yours. If you're lucky, you'll be done in 2 months. If you're not, then like N&S, it'll take like 6-8 months. I would not consider anything "at the moment" and dream about any kind of job until your AOS is done. Or EAD for other jobs that takes EAD into consideration. Once you're done with AOS and approved, you'll have plenty of time to join army, navy, anything you want.

2. The USCIS site is notoriously unreliable. When we were in the AOS phase, the USCIS case status would flip so many times, it was like watching panckaes being cooked...

So, just sit back down, relax, collect your evidences nicely, photo copy them, make a binder for it, think what you can add and listen to the radio. In no time you'll be freaking out how you have your interview date in a week.

Good luck!

This is great advice. You will never know how long your case is taking until you have the GC approved - you may be an Interview Waiver, you may be stuck at a slow local office for an interview, or the USCIS website may just not be updated (my case was actually stuck in "Case Not Found" status until the day it got approved). So just try not to get too nervous about it. I know the wait sucks, but there is nothing you can do about it except for not to let it bother you too much.

Like you, my uscis site AOS status is still in acceptance and I filed last March. And I totally agree with what Anotherlostsoul said after reading totally varying updates from my fellow AOS March filers. Some had their interviews already, while some had no movement whatsoever. And I have a read a lot so far as well about the possibility of 8-10 months AOS processing time especially for potential interview waivers, so I have somehow prepared myself in that timeline and there's not much we can do for now. I know it can get boring and it appears like you're somebody who's used to being pre-occupied. I guess we can only try to make use of our idle time to any productive activities like community volunteer programs, etc. Try checking out online courses too. Good luck! :)

I've been told it depends on your local office and how much of a case-load they have. My local office is Raleigh and is still processing AOS from Nov/2013.

It DOES suck because there are a handful of people on here with AOS NOA dates after mine who have their GC in hand :/ My NOA was 2/25 and it still hasn't changed to testing and interview... Not to mention my EAD/AP took 93 days while most people in my area took <65 days.

I always thought with our 'easy case' we would fly through this process (I'm Canadian, squeaky clean record, played sports in the USA growing up, grew up in a border town, been crossing the border monthly since I was born and he's MIL, squeaky clean record). You really can't compare your cases (as I had to learn), because it WILL drive you batty. It still makes me climb walls somedays (haha), but I'm trying to be patient.

Hmm thank you guys, I will try to follow your advice. You would think that you get SOME information after they let you pay 1000 bucks. But no, some of you guys have waited over a year and more, so i cant even complain. I cant think of why it depends on the local office since our case is not at a local office yet (?). correct me if i'm wrong. I thought our cases are processed at the NBC Office up until it changes to testing in interview and they send it to a local office. Did I get it wrong?

I agree! I tried calling USCIS (sorry, but sooo useless) and my question was "Since my case is still at the NBC, I was wondering what the wait period is for AOS as it is not posted as something they typically handle."

They said "You have to see what the processing time is at your local office." Hmmm. So I said, "But my case is not AT my local office, its at the NBC." And she just ran me around in this circle. I mean, I know she doesn't have any 'special' information. Don't even know why I tried.

Unfortunately my office, Raleigh, is still processing for Nov/2013... although someone who applied in Feb HAS their GC. Gah. Whatever. See. BATTY.

And I should clarify, I have gotten a nice young man once at USCIS who actually entertained my questions on a personal level and deviated from the 'script for most of the call. But that's been one out of like 20 calls in the past 1.5yrs.

Ok, so from what it looks like, a lot of us adjusting from the K1 visa are waiting for interview notices. I have read forums in and out and studied the AOS process quite a bit. From what I understand, people adjusting from a K1 visa don't always get an interview scheduled. If suspicion is raised or there are concerns about the AOS then an interview is scheduled otherwise the AOS is approved and the GC is sent to the beneficiary. Upon removal of conditions an interview is conducted. I think a lot of us adjusting from K1 visa are stuck waiting because of this. So the wait is a good thing and not necessarily a bad thing. A lot of people prefer to get the interview notice only because GC is generated a lot faster if you are interviewed than if you are just simply approved. If Employment Auth and Advance Parole were requested upon filing I-485 then waiting for GC shouldn't be a problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
