NVC have my name wrong

Hi all, got a bit of a weird problem. I'm going to call in on Tuesday and see why this might have happened and hopefully get it fixed.

I called up on Thursday and gave my name and DOB when they asked for it, which was correct on their system so they gave me all the login numbers etc. I've been using my married name throughout the entire process and only entered my maiden surname where it explicitly asked for that on the forms. Up until now, the US government has been referring to me by my married name on all correspondence.

On Friday, I got a response to an email I sent a week or two ago also asking for my case number. However, in that response, not only did they enter my my maiden name, but they misspelt it. I assume whoever responded to that email was looking in the wrong place on something because of the fact the NVC agent on the phone accepted my married name.

Has that ever happened to anybody here?

Your email has a name associated with it that shows who it comes from. Have you edited that to the married name?

Maybe the person replying saw it came from Mary "Smith" and included that in the reply and also made a typo??? If your forms are correct, the email wouldn't concern me.

No, it's a new email address I made about a month ago. It's in the format firstname.lastname@outlook.com and the "From" field shows my full married name. I think it must be a new administrator who doesn't know what they're doing.

I think I'm breaking forum rules a little here because I posted this yesterday in the NVC forum, but got little response. If a mod wishes to, please feel free to merge the two threads.

About two weeks ago, I sent an email to NVC asking for my case number. In that email, I provided my married name as that is the name on my passport and I-130.

A week later, I decided to call NVC. Again, when the agent asked for the beneficiary's name, I provided my married name. She provided me with the case number with no issues whatsoever, so I had no reason to believe they'd entered any of our details wrong.

The next day, I got a response to my email to NVC. In their response, they have for no apparent reason used my maiden name AND spelled it so wrong it isn't even a name anymore. I mean, unless there are really people with the surname "Strret" out there, I dunno.

Surely if my name was actually like that in their database, the agent I spoke to last week would have said "sorry, your name doesn't match our records and I can't provide you with info"?

I was planning on just continuing entering my REAL name into all their forms and such, but should I call them on Tuesday and ask them to stop jerking around? I don't know if using my married name in the forms at this point will cause them to have a freak-out over our case.

I can't speak to the typo but if you want everything changed over to your married name you need to send a specific email to the NVCinquiry email address with the request to change your name.

You need to attach a copy of your passport in your married name, and ask them to change your name on file to match your passport. In your case, I would add the information that your actual maiden name is "Smith" and they spelled it "Smythe" or whatever, just to make it easier to find your file.

But apparently they won't change to your married name without a specific request (and supporting documentation) to do so.

Does everyone who uses their husband's name have to do this? I got my new passport months before I sent my I-130 petition off and used my married name all over the place.

I don't know, but I filed the i130 with my married name too, and the NVC registered me under my maiden name. Whatever... I'm over trying to figure out why they do what they do! Hopefully they'll fix it soon!

Well, whether I get a response to my email or not, all the forms we fill out are going to have my married name in they can like it or lump it. I feel better knowing it's not just me though. Did you get them to change your name to your married name?

Well, I haven't heard anything from them at all since I sent the "please correct my name" email so I'm not sure. I'll let you know!

I have an update. It seems it was just one of the admin staff having a bad day. All correspondence and forms I've received from NVC have my married name spelled correctly on them. That panic can now be laid to rest!

i know this is 2 years ago, but this just happened to me with last name being wrong. actually i was given a totally different last name!
