221 g not enough income

Oh now I have an issue. My husband retired just last year so the taxes he filed this year has a gross of like $36000.I am wondering if it will complicate it since 2014 is all retirement income and we can show the bank deposits for his retirement.

Normally, they would ask only for the most recent tax return (unless they specifically require you to submit the ones from previous years). You would just have to look at his 2013 1040 or IRS tax transcript. If you guys plan to submit a 1040, just take note that you also need to show supporting documents for this which is the W2 or 1099. To be honest, the bank deposits reflecting a certain amount and declare this as gross income is not sufficient.

Yes,we got the 2013 tax forms here when he filed it thru turbotax as well as the w2.Im just worried that it may complicate it as he doesnt receive funds from the same income anymore,(retired since october 2013)lol.We got a letter from Social security end of 2013 as well showing his ss income so I guess if they want the 2014 income I can show them that eh.

Hi there! My husband is getting his from social security and city retirement. The total of that is like $20000 something a year and both are not taxable. That would be enough right? Thanks a lot!

Should be enough, only need $19,662 for two people

Have your husband go onto MY SOCIAL SECURITY there he can create a benefits verification letter to bring to the interview. He will have to contact the city pension to get a benefits statement from them, or bring a bunch of monthly statements.

Pay stubs (and/or employment certificate) are only asked for when the petitioner's income is close to or only meets the $ 20k bar. 1040 + W2 is typically good enough for those exceeding the poverty guidelines, and as you said he does, so you're good to go! Best to bring the SS letter as well during the interview in case they look for this.

That isn't true, embassy only requires the most recent tax return (transcript) and W-2, as long as the income at least meets the poverty guidelines of the I-864P all is good. Employment letter is optional, pay stubs are optional as well - only time these are really needed is with a new job (and in this person's case neither even exist as he is retired).

It happened right in front of my eyes, Hank.. and I was with the applicant the whole time while waiting for our numbers to flash. Sorry. I know it passed the 125% bar too, but the CO still gave the girl a 221g for her fiance's paystubs and employment cert. Found out the guy just started working again for a year after being laid off for 3 years. Must be ONLY because of that. But, of course, they may be more lenient with IR1s/CR1s. :)

Edit: Yes, the fiance must be in a new job too.

There is the reason for wanting the employment letter and pay stubs - same reason I listed. -guy just started working again for a year after being laid off for 3 years.

But the embassy does not ask for an employment letter or pay stubs if a person "just" meets or exceeds the poverty guidelines.

No, no .. don't be scared. You just said said his latest 1040 & W2 shows a gross income of 36k, right? That's more than enough. No need for co-sponsors. :)

Yes it was $36k for 2013 but not anymore this year($20 000).We are worried that they would want more because we barely meet the 125% of poverty guidelines. We are just $500 above it!Haha

Don't think too much now.. They will only look for 2013 tax returns since 36k is waaay more than 20k. and the embassy is more lenient with IR1/CR1s like you. You'll be fine!
