Hi all,

My girlfriend (8 years together) has been selected for the DV program (from Tunisia) as a single and already went ahead and submitted the DS260 application.
At the time of submission, we were not aware that the procedure iern order to get spouse (we were planning to get engaged in July and married next year) to the US takes 2-3 years if not more (which is going to be too long separated).

We are not sure how to handle this and if there is a way of getting there together.

Could you please help us.

Thanks.

You could get married and your girl friend ( wife at that point ) could amend her filing. Expect some degree of questioning to ensure that you have had a valid relationship and that she didn't marry you to help you get a visa ( minus love )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Your best bet is to get married before the interview. Once you are married, she can legally add you as a spouse (by updating her own DS260 and adding one for you). You can then get a diversity visa as her derivative, assuming of course she is successful in the interview. Be aware they are suspicious of marriages entered into after selection so along with proof of marriage, be sure to take evidence of a bona fide relationship - if you have been together for 8 years that should be pretty easy to do!

What is her case number? (X out the last 3 digits eg AF23xxx) - this can help us estimate when her interview might be.

Thank you guys for the quick response.

my girlfriend case number is 2015AF00082***.

We were planning to get engaged in july but since my father past away (2 weeks ago) everything got cancelled.

Looking forward to get your interview date estimate.

Ps we are both engineers with international experiences ( with us client for me ) so hopefully the interview won't be an issue.

Thanks

Yeah that is a high number, most likely interviewing September 2015 with a chance of August. Gives you lots of time. But don't leave it too late to submit the DS form that adds you, preferably a few months before the interview.

Someone's posted an answer to this elsewhere in the forums - sounds like she would need to contact KCC so they can "reopen" the DS260 for her. (In the old days of paper forms you'd just send an updated form, so this would be the electronic equivalent of that I guess)
