No longer allowed under Obamacare.

No longer allowed under Obamacare.

Correct. I signed up for a bronze plan and question was never asked. Eligibility is based on an individual's income, and they require a copy of your 1040 tax return. Below a certain amount a person is automatically referred to state welfare medical services, which is payed for by the ACA.

For the OP, who is in a hurry, Obamacare isn't an option. Open enrollment ended last month, and the next open period isn't until November.

Hi guys. I am in dire need of advice. My grandmother in Mexico had surgery about 10 months ago and her wound wont heal. We brought her over on a tourist visa to visit a doctor and we have been told she needs treatment asap. the problem is that without insurance its costing us a fortune and we just cant afford it. My mom is a us citizen and wants to help my grandparents immigrate. The problem is time isnt on our side as the longer we take the bigger chance they might have to amputate her foot and we can wait the 6 months for the i130 and interview at consulate. What can we do that will be quicker so we can get my grandmother the medical care she needs? Anyhelp would be appreciated. Thank you.

grandma can stay (and not leave)

since mom is a uscitizen

and mom files I-130 + I-485 plus the ancilliary forms plus the medical exam.

Not a cheap route to take but once Mom files Grandma can stay.

Doesn't reduce the cost of medical stuff but at least she can stay.

Wouldn't this be a qualifying event so she could sign up straightaway?

It is extremely unusual to be able to add a Parent to a work insurance, not impossible but pretty close. So make absolutely sure that is available.

Mom getting status is a 'life-changing event' and all medical insurance agencies allow for adding people because of life-changing events.

She would have to have her green card. They are looking at least at 4 months and most likely longer.

In my State she need to file to adjust status.

Yes Darnell, but I have never heard of an employer insurance plan that will permit parents. It is always spouses and children.

Some years back there was someone who insisted they could do it, I think worked for Government, Ambulance or something.

Difficult to believe why any Employer would.

Technically, but it would have to be considered a qualifying life-changing event under the plan.

I don't think I've come across an insurance plan that allows for parents to be added.

Again thank you all for your replies, i really appreciate it. We are considering using Mexican private hospitals but are a but are a bit worried because a private hospital (star medica) is who got us in this spot in the first place. This is all post surgery issues. We paid for the full procedure and they wont and will not help us as they state they did their part. I will reach out to you in hopes we can find a good hospital. I will fly her out there if thats the solution. I will go bankrupt before i let her loose her foot for not getting the care she needs. thanks again everyone, i have a good idea as to what i will do as far as immigration goes.

Her obtaining a green card won't solve the insurance issue. She won't be eligible for Medicare or Medicaid. How do you intend to pay for her medical care if she obtains a green card?

How come she doesn't qualified? I came here when I obtained my green card an on the next month I aplied for my insurance...and still have my health insurance active! Have anything changes since 2004?
