Is the outer delivery wrapper see-through? Thank you Nich for breaking it down for me. I do have a bit of a learning disability so its hard for me to understand some forms of speech.

I've said this before to you, however so your aware, my big envelope was not brown, it was white.

I don't know what they are using. The one we got was kinda thick clear messy plastic wrapping. Yours could be paper or plastic, but the OUTSIDE wrapper or envelope is opened, no matter what color. That is easy to remember. Open the outside envelope.

Then inside will be a sealed up paper envelope. Some have been brown and some have been white. Either color is fine. If it has a tiny tear from rough handling, that is fine too. As long at it isn't so torn open that you could pull out the papers inside, it is fine. Many people have worried about little one or three inch tears in the envelope but they were not a problem at POE.

Small tear or damage to sealed envelope = ok

Papers falling out of sealed envelope = Not ok

Our "Do not open" sealed envelope was brown and very cheap thin paper. I hope they got nicer ones by now.

You are welcome. Very nice that you thought to say thanks. I know people like you who get very hung up on one small thing at a time and can't think of manners or anything else but their worry. Good job.

To give you more information OP, my envelope (which arrived on Wednesday) had ample Sellotape over the flap to further protect the big envelope. There was a stamp over the top of the Sellotape, as a seal mark I guess?!

This may help.. I picked up my visa 2 weeks ago and the below image is the envelope you will have INSIDE the plastic packaging. As it states on the envelope, this is the part you DO NOT OPEN

If it doesn't look like the below or it doesn't have all the writing on it like the below image does, then you can open it..

Yours also looked like it was taped shut, phew.

Good photo and much nicer envelope indeed. It would be hard to mistakenly open that one. And notice it is a bit crumpled but will be just fine in that condition.

Uh-oh... I see something that will worry corvusheart. It says "Do not pack it -it must be hand carried"

It means don't put it in checked luggage. You can pack it in a carry-on bag that will go in the plane cabin with you. It does not have to remain in your hand all the way across the Atlantic.
