Hey guys,

As most of you know, I'm currently waiting for interview at the Atlanta GA USCIS office. In 3 days it'll be two months from when I switched to Testing and Interview, and currently, they are doing November filers, whom had to wait about 4 months before getting their interview date.

My wife and I want to move to Portland OR, but we thought it best to just wait it out and get the interview done with, get the GC, then head up. We are currently renting a suite attached to my mother-in-laws house, and recently, the living situation has just become awful. Long story short, we want to move into a cheap rental for the next few months because we both just can't handle living here mentally anymore, as much as we were trying to wait it out and suck it up so we'd be able to save faster, it's just not worth the emotional stress.

My question is:

1. Since we're literally moving 2 or 3 miles away in the same city, and our situation isn't SO bad that I don't think my mother-in-law would completely screw us over, should we avoid changing our address and have our immigration related things sent to her house so we can just come over and pick up our interview letter/GC when I get it? or is that considered fraud if for some reason the USCIS did a home check?

2. Should we just go ahead and change our address because we're still going to have the same USCIS office for our interview, and if for some reason they end up sending it to the old address instead of the new address, it's not a big deal anyways as we can still go and collect it? But with that being said, we'd have to change our address again in a few months when we move to Portland, will that just cause complications or annoyance for the USCIS?

Advice appreciated, as always!

I would just change the address with USCIS, you need to call and do an AR-11, I believe.

While you have a GC you will need to update your address with USCIS for every move. If the case is not active, then it's just a quick internet form, no biggie.

I'd have to find the thread but I thought the petitoner and the beneficiary had to submit two different forms? Obviously I would just need to look up the proper procedure and do it, I just didn't know if it would be worth the hassle.

Will changing my address slow down my case in any way even though my local office still stays the same?

Intending immigrant has to do two things:

a) change address online for 485, 131, 765

b) online AR-11

USC has to do two things:

a) change address online

b) snail mail 865

If you move every two weeks, so be it, you will end up doing this a bunch of times. Better to comply exactly with what they request. You should have no problems with the interview since you are moving nearby.

If we didn't file the I31, would it just be the 485 and 765? What about the 130? and both the petitioner and beneficiary need to do that?

Yeah, no 131 if you did not file for that.

The 130 is what the USC updates in http://www.uscis.gov/addresschange

So, Immigrant: 485 and 765 at addresschange + file the ar11 online

USC: 130 at addresschange + file the 865 by snail mail.

Okay so, sorry to bump an old thread, but...

For the petitioner:

I filed the I-130 at the change of address online.

I have the I-865 ready to send registered mail.

For the beneficiary:

I changed the I-485 and the I-765 at the change of address online.

I filed the AR-11 online (it automatically did it for me when I did the 485 and 765)

Is there anything else I'm missing? I want to make sure I did everything correctly because I can't afford to delay or cause confusion with my interview date.

Also, it said to file the change of address within 10 days of moving, which I did, but the I-865 can be filed within 30 days. I won't be able to go to the post office until early next week, so I'm assuming that won't be an issue?

Lastly, it said they would let me know something by June 18th, do they do that via my account on the USCIS website, by email, by phone?

Thanks all!

Ah okay, so just the online change of address then? Is there anything additional I need to do, like send a letter making sure or anything? Not sure if that would be necessary being that it's staying at the same office, but I wanted to make sure.

You don't need an I-865 yet because the I-864 has not been accepted.

In the I-865 instructions it says "if you've ever completed the form I-864 in the past" but I don't know if completed means the same thing as accepted or not?

You don't need to send the I-865 by registered mail. Just a normal first class stamp will be fine. The US petitioner also has more time to take care of that (30 days versus 10 for the AR-11).

Hmm. I vote it is not yet complete because it has not been decided on or officially accepted. But, I don;t see the harm in doing it if it makes you feel better. Worst case, they just throw it away.
