Is there is any other way to get Thai TV or English with Thai subs/vice-versa in the states (e.g. HBO Asia)? Is there anything available over FTA (free-to-air)? I have directv at the moment and a Roku with Malimar TV, but I'd really like a better option than going to the local store or streaming movies?

There's not really a large selection on Amazon instant video or Netflix and I doubt redbox has anything.

I went down that road when my wife first got here. She really didn't care about it like I thought she would. She mostly watches Thai movies and Soaps on Youtube now.

My finance gets Thai TV on her smart phone. Not sure how she does it, I think it's an app. I'll check when I get back tonight. It's possible she is just watching YouTube videos, not sure.

Dootv.tv

Lots of Thai movies, shows and etc

Well, with Aseaniptv/Malimar, the Lakorn and Thai Channels (3/5/7, etc) are no problem. It's really more about movies that we both can enjoy together. I honestly can't be bothered with the Thai voice overlays with English subs. I have no issues sourcing movies with Thai audio, but the pickings for Thai audio/English subs and vice versa seem to be rather thin.

I really went out of my way to try and get movies that had Thai subtitles, looking into Thai FTA satellite, etc. etc. At the end of the day, she really didn't care about any of it. Someone turned her on to the youtube Thai soap opera thing, and that what she watches almost all of the time now. It keeps her busy so I can focus on my animal porn without being bothered.

When we were in Thailand we always had to watch her soaps, now she could care less. Given that my wife is a blossoming chef (and quite a good one) she watches all her Thai cooking shows on youtube. We tried Dootv.tv but she likes the variety on youtube better.

I have a confession, it's mostly for me. I like the cheesy Thai horror movies.
