Question on the new Poverty income level

Hey everyone,

Well as some of you already know We have been having problems with our co-sponsor just after we had our papers sent to the Embassy in Santo Domingo Dominican Republic. Well thank God, we are getting through these problems and everything is working out now. But I just realized that there could be another problem. My question is.... If our papers were at the Embassy there as of 12/29/2006 and we may not actually get a interview for 20-24 months, then do we stand under the income guidelines for 2006 or do we keep having to find someone who makes more and more money every year until we actually have the interview? Also does income guidelines ever go down or do they steady rise?? When is the new income level expected to come out? How much does if usually get raised a year (approx)? I think that is all. Wait one more question (sorry) I am going to have more that one co-sponsor, I questioned my lawyer but would be interested as to what everyone here has to say.. Let's say that I have 2 co-sponsors, can I combine the yearly amount of the two CS and my self, as long as it comes to the amount of the family size? For instance.... If there is 2 co-sponsors, and me and my fiance (example), that would make a family of four. So can I combine the income for me and the two CS, as long as it is the amount needed for the family of 4? Hope I made scence. As always, thanks for everyones help

WJR,

For 2006, the 100% and 125% numbers of the Poverty guideline is $13,200 & $16,500.

Income guidelines don't go down, nor does the cost of living. Don't know when the new Income levels come out or if they will increase or not. Whenever you have your Interview, you and/or the co-sponsor(s) must meet the Poverty guidelines.

You are responsible for you, your future wife. That is the $$ amount needed. Co-sponsors are not included in "family size". You speak of other adults that are your co-sponsers, but neither of them alone earns enough to meet the Poverty guidelines. From what I read, it will take all 3 of you to meet the guideline? Are you on Public Assistance now? Are they? If "yes", you cannot use government assistance money to guarantee that the Beneficiary will not go on public Assistance. I may just be misundestanding what you said. Please correct me.

Ok, I am not on Public Asst as far as cash I do however receive Food Stamps and Medical (for my kids). I am on Disability. Now I am returning from DR on the 16th of March, and I will be starting my job Part Time as of the 18th. With my disability and my job I still do not make the required amount needed for the 125%. His brother-in-law will be one of the CS he does not meet the 125% for all of us and his family, but makes a good amount of money. So I have my mother CSing also (does not alone make the amount of money. But if we took my money from Disability and job, his brother-in law's money and my mother's money and combine it we come out about 1,200 over the 125% required for 10 people. I am just asking because I want to make sure my jerk off lawyer knows what he is talking about, he said with the amount of people CS and my family and kids would be 10 and the amount of everyone's income can be combined "As Long" as it meets the 125% income level for a family of 10. So is it true that it can be combined???? Thanks for getting back so fast also. Has the income requirement ever just stood the same in the past???? Thanks again, WJR

wjr,

I searched a couple forums here at VJ. I did not find anything that leads me to believe that 3 people together, in an attempt to co-sponsor, who do not meet the Poverty guidelines individually, can "pool" resources in order to meet the minimum for ALL parties involved. In this case, that is 10 people. It sounds like an "idea", but I cannot imagine the Consulate accepting the plan. I hope that you can get this worked out soon.

Maybe some other VJers will respond today and help you get a more definitive answer.

Well thank you Joey for trying to help. I had also had tried to look for this type of information in the forums and was not able to find anything either. Seeing as no one else has answered me I will just have to "try" and trust in what our lawyer (from USA) said. He had said that you can have as many co-sponsors as you wanted, and that you can combine the yearly income of everyone together. For everyone who is having this problem also, I am going to be the guinie (don't think I spelled that right...lol) pig for this. I have trusted everything that this lawyer has said and have had no problems except for one thing when I found out that one of his directions he told us was not used anymore and the consulate has not been doing that for quite some time now. So other than that he has been great, but because of that I am very skeptical in his knowledge.....you know what I mean? Anyways I guess all I can do is keep searching to narrow it down to just me and one CS. Pray for me I am not only going to be working a regular job once I get back, but I am opening a business from home. My goal is to be able to sponsor him myself and be able to work activly without having to stir up anymore problems with my back. I am going to have plenty of time to be able to do this seeing as the DAM waiting list is 20-24 months long. Anyways, I will keep anyone who is interested posted on what happens as the time gets closer where I am at as far as the CS and I will let everyone know how the Business is going. (Don't worry not a get rich BS business) But if I am successful I will share the information to help others. One more thing Joey, where could I look for the information on the USCIS about this CS stuff???? Thanks again for helping me, WJR
