Police in North Carolina are looking for robbers who ignored a “No Weapons” sign at an eatery and brought firearms to their crime.
Employees of The Pit in Durham were assaulted at gunpoint at the gun-free zone, a local ABC affiliate reported May 19.

“Authorities said just before 9 p.m. Sunday, three men wearing hoodies entered the restaurant through the back doors with pistols, and forced several staff members to lie on the floor,” the station reported.
After the assault one of the employees was taken to the hospital, but was later released, owner Greg Hatem told the station.
Reader F Paul Valone wrote in the ABC News 11 comments section: “The Pit BBQ was robbed at gunpoint? Wait, that’s not possible; The Pitt posted signs prohibiting guns. We all know that armed criminals will avoid places that prohibit guns, right? Since most will miss the irony, the Pitt BBQ’s other location in Raleigh was where national gun control advocates Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly held their meeting to have a “dialogue with gun owners”… to which no gun owners were invited.”
The owner of The Pit is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the guilty parties.

Do you really think the sign was intended to stop lawbreakers and people with no regard for human life, or do you think the sign was meant to deter people with common sense from bringing weapons onto the property?

The Pit...OK bbq, too hipster for me.

Here is a review from Yelp posted yesterday:

http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-pit-durham-2#query:the%20pit%20durham

"The Pit's food is solid and the atmosphere is good. That said, after they got rolled by a few Democrats Monday night, I'm just a little leery to eat here. The sign out front clearly stated that "weapons are not allowed," so I can't imagine what those thieves were thinking. Just rude behavior. Don't they know that words can hurt more than sticks and stones?

I coach soccer, so I'll make sure I bring both a yellow and red card to use next time I eat here. Maybe even give an unruly, armed thug(s) a time out. That should teach those scamps a lesson."

Forget guns, ban hoodies.

And I'm a little confused. The three guys came in and made people lie down. Where is the assault and why did one of the employees have to go to the hospital?

Are you seriously of the opinion that taking a gun to a restaurant (assuming this is a restaurant and not some pokey druggy hang out) is something that people in a modern, civilised society should accept as normal and acceptable? Personally, I think that's shite. Any restaurant that requires the the patrons to be armed in order to be and feel safe is not what I would describe as a nice setting for a social evening. All this nonsense about robbers and fear, anyone would think you have no idea what motivates criminals.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Some people like to live in fear. It's not exactly a healthy state of mind.

In Texas at least they can put up all the signs they want but they can't ban someone that has a license to carry conceal from doing so. If the restaraunt sells make up over a certain percent of alcohol then they can.

Well Bingo... Then the sign is worthless isn't it as are gun laws that only stop legal law abiding people

You have seen the light
