Yup, I think Dove is what Galaxy is called in the US... whether it tastes anything like the same, I have no idea! I remember when I was about 13 one of my friends used to go on and on about 'Galaxy Dove' and used to sneak out of school to buy whatever it was. Might have been a Galaxy ice cream... I really can't remember! But anyway, I digress - Dove is the name Mars uses for Galaxy in the States - try it! (and let me know what it's like...)

I'm still in the UK, so can't wax lyrical about my favourite foods, yet (well, I can, but it'll just be a big list of Stuff I Like rather than specific things I'm pining for)... will return to this thread (or make a new one) in a few months when I've started daydreaming about, say, fishfinger sandwiches/pickled onion Monster Munch/other UK culinary delights.

That said... I just KNOW I'm going to miss a good curry. God, how will I survive without it? I've had indian food in the US and it's not been anything like I'm used to... although I did have one meal in LA years ago that was sooooo good that I'm salivating at the thought of it even now! I saw an indian restaurant in Cincinnati... will have to find out if it's any good.

I hate Indian but there is plenty in Cincy! Also, I can tell you were to get UK sausages & other UK goodies, I know all the shops here.

Dark choclate Dove is good, but none of it tastes like UK choccies. :(

The Muller yogurt was an interesting addition and, I'm sorry to say, a correct one. In fact, the only food Paul can't seem to find an equal for is yogurt. American yogurt is just different. We've tried different brands, different 'types" (creamy, whipped, etc) we just can't find one that's the same. I LOVED the Muller's blueberry cheesecake yogurts. MMM, a trip to Tesco/ASDA will be happening the day we get there.

The candy/sausages/etc we can find hitting a few shops but it's the restaurants/delis you can't replicate. Joe Rigatoni's is one we'll definitley be hitting and you really can't beat Whitby fish/chips....Two months, I can make it.

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

We have been buying Lindt white truffles, and hubby thinks they are as good or better than any white chocolate he got across the pond. He also likes the dove okay.

Yes yes yes yes please!! You can get actual, proper brit-sausages there??! I thought that was the one thing (well, okay, one of many things) you couldn't get anywhere, so this is very good news indeed! I rarely eat the things over here, but I know that I'll be missing them once I get there... when I was in Columbus in the summer we were cooking & eating outside all the time, and barbecued bratwursts just aren't the same. I remember being amazed that the supermarket could have a massive aisle devoted to sausages, and yet not one of those sausages were anything like the ones over here!

Ah, the power of suggestion... having just got out of bed (I'm in night-shift mode) I'm now thinking 'hmm, cafe down the road, full English breakfast, sausages, yum...' :lol:

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

(Irish but very close) Sausages: http://freshmarket.com/ - soon to be 2 shops in Cincy. One is here already.

Eat lots of fry-ups now, there are NONE over here!

Irish sausages are good... and that shop looks fantastic, had never heard of it before. Cheers!

And hmm... what with all the curries I'm going to be 'forced' to gorge myself on over the next few months (just in case I can't find comparable stuff over there - that's my excuse, anyway) and now the need to eat lots of fry-ups in the hope I'll never want to see another rasher of bacon in my life by the time I leave... hmm, it's just lucky we're not having the 'proper' kind of wedding that involves months of dress fittings. At this rate, there's no way I'll be able to get into any of my clothes come the summer! :lol:

I spent a bit of time over in England a couple of years ago before C made his way to Texas.

While missing some of my favorite snack foods from my visit (the chocolates.. galaxy and cadbury, Ribena and all of the millions of flavors of crisps) I've done a little bit of research.

I know its not exactly the same, being that the US ingredients likely make it taste a bit different than the same ingredients in the UK, its as close as it comes to being "the same".

Dove is Galaxy.. hooray!

Galaxy Chocolate - Wikipedia

The Walkers Sensations crips I saw here in Texas at the grocery store sold as Lays Sensations, but they didnt have all of the good flavors from the UK. Maybe there is some hope yet, even though they sold out and I havent seen them in quite some time now.

I cant believe that the US doesn't really do cordials and squash. Love the stuff. Closest I've seen is some juice concentrate from Schwann's a LONG LONG time ago. Still wasnt the same though.

We did manage to find Strongbow cider here at 1 of the package stores in town.. but only the 1 carries it.

I sure wish that we had an import shop here. We're almost out of HP sauce and I'd kill for some ribena and proper crisps!

Can I play too?

Yes, it's Aussie - but same difference.

* Like Lisa, I LOVE those Smirnoff things...Well the one I love isn't Smirnoff, It's called UDL - but those prepackaged vodka drinks are the BEST.

* A good cider, indeed.

* Fish and CHips! We go to the store and get two flake, two potato cakes and chips...all wrapped up in paper and good to go! YUmmmm....

* Schweppe's Lemonade. Yum.

* Aussie Dorito's. SOOO good.

* Any proper Cadbury (And yes I know Aussie Cadbury isn't...but HUSH :) )

* Noooooodles. I miss my noodle bars :(

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
