ds-260 rare/sad problem

Hi Friends,

First, want to thank everyone for the great inputs and congratulations to all the winners of the DV-Lottery. I am posting on behalf of my mother in law who has just won the green card lottery.

She was the primary application and received a relatively low number EUxxx10xxx . She has included my father in law and my brother in law (14 year old). Tradigically, my father in law passed away in January. As you can imagine this was a real shock for all of us and we are still recovering.

I can say we felt kinda of blessed when we saw the results, even he was looking down on us; he really wanted to move to the US. I am American and my wife and I have both just moved back to Florida. Winning the greed card lottery will now let my mother in law and brother in law come live with us and move past all the stuff that has happened.

Problem now is the ds-260. We filled out everything for my mother in law (primary applicant) and my brother in law, but we cannot submit fully unless we fill in the application for my father in law. I called KCC and they recommended that I just fill out my deceased father in law ds260 as well. I am sure that cannot be correct. I have emailed them 2 days ago, but have yet to hear a response. I see only an option to add members, not remove.

Any ideas to the guru's out there.

Best Regards,

Billman

Sorry to hear of your loss. That must be hard, but it sounds like you are all taking the DV selection as a positive way to move on - so I am happy for you.

I think you just need to hold of submitting the 260 forms at the moment. Get a response in writing before doing anything. In reality this is a slow process - controlled by your mother in laws case number. Processing won't start for months - so there is plenty of time to get clarity on your situation and get the response in writing and then make an informed decision.

FYI this is the first year that the 260 form has been used for DV - so some aspects are unknown and as you say, your situation is rare (thankfully). So - just hold on. Best of luck.

Firstly, sorry for your family's loss.

I would await confirmation but it sounds odd that you were asked to fill in a DS260 for him. Apart from anything else, there are cases where a derivative does not want to join the family and therefore does not get a visa, and therefore does not send in a DS form. They just do not get processed for the appointment.

The program makes allowances for additions to family members after entry, so the converse must happen too. I presume also that your mother in law will have the option of entering that she is a widow, rather than married, on the form.

Thanks Britsimon,

You are right, we are positive about it......

I think you are right, we will get everything organized from our side in terms of documents and wait for them to reply. I will keep this forum updated if and when I do received an appropriate reply.

Thank you for the advice.

Best Regards,

Billman

SusieQQQ,

You are correct, On her ds260 form, we have now put widowed.

However, it appears, in the new system, every person, even the people joining the primary applicant have to complete a separate ds260 form before we can submit. It has to be batch submitted together.

Correct me if I am wrong.... I have not gone past the sign and verify step for my mother and law and brother in law.

Thank you for the help as always.

Best Regards,

Billman

I can't comment on the new system... So if you don't have the option of not filling in a DS form for him, I would then wait as britsimon says until you get in writing from KCC how to approach this.

Hi SusieQQQ,

Yeah I think that's the best approach for the time being. We have time it looks like, so don't want to rush anything.

Also, if y'all can help me it would be great, I am looking for some forums that talk about life after landing on a greed card. I would want to share that site with my two potential new immigrants. They have both visited the USA a bunch of times, but just to get the feeling from other's that have landed. I have not seen to many threads on "life after the DV lottery"

Thanks again for the all the help. Like I mentioned before, I will update, once I get a reply.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Billman

Greed Card??? LOL

Life after DV - We discussed that sort of thing in the old forum (now replaced by the new old forum noted in my sig). I'm sure we will have "journey so far" type posts.

You will also find good info on expat forums - I have used http://britishexpats.com/ as one that is focussed on Brits abroad - there will probably be one that will relate to your MIL and BIL. It is useful to check those out to learn how to get hold of things you might miss from the old country or just being able to speak to someone who has gone through similar issues to those they will face.

Sorry for your loss.

The DS 260 forms are submitted individually (not in batch). Each person (principle and derivatives) need to fill own forms. When you log on it will show whose form is completed, and which one is incomplete or not started.

So if you are certain that you have filled the form rightly, you can submit. You will get the confirmation message with the option of emailing it (to your e-mail I presume) or printing it.

My wife and I filled the forms two days ago and those are the reality we observed.

Best wishes

Just wanted to give an update.

I never received an email from KCC so I had my mother in law complete it herself and put widowed. She was able to submit as well for my brother in law.

Mfumuke is correct, you don't have to submit all together in one batch, each person is treated uniquely. We did not fill out my father in law's and will not.

Thank you for all the help. Good luck to all the people in their quest to get a green card.

Best Regards,

Hi everyone

Just to keep this thread updated. My mother in law and brother law completed the interview and have now landed in the USA. No issues what so ever. The landing was through Boston and was straight forward.

We are all in Florida ....
