While the pinned and locked topics in this forum contain some useful information, most of them are outdated and mis-direct the reader as new methods and systems are in place. Additionally, not all consulates process paperwork the same. Suggest the mods unpin these topics to allow new information to be posted related to NVC/Consulate

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks, we try to keep up to date on things like this but unless we are notified by someone about a specific topic no longer being valid, we are not always be in the know ourselves that something has changed in a pinned situation or a specific part of a process. If you have pinned threads in particular that you know are no longer relevant or need to be updated, would you either list them here, or more easily, use the report button and report its irrelevancy to the report forum? That way we can take care of it/them.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Any topic relating to K1 petitions that have been approved and passed to the NVC should be updated. It appears many of these topics were started about the time the CEAC and ustraveldocs were just starting. For that reason there were several features that had bugs or were not fully implemented. For example, NVC status can be retrieved online after obtaining the case number from the NVC. Further, most consulates specifically forbid applicants from trying to schedule an interview until the beneficiary is notified by the consulate. I'm referring to K1 here as other visa types undergo slightly different processing. Edited by ExExpat

It wasn't long ago that Cap'n Ewok came about and asked some members to do a sweep of some of the guides. Was that project finished?

I don't believe so. We are still very interested in any individuals who can go through the guides and pinned threads and identify specific areas that need to be addressed. The corrections and updates can happen much faster that way, so volunteers are definitely welcome  .

You need to unpin the long lists of threads that contain misleading information and confine it to specific information that applies to today. I have spent countless hours chasing dead-end leads from posts found in pinned threads. Not all is bad, but we need a definitive single source of information rather than pinning something that has not been vetted.

I saw an offer like that online. All one need to do is post information about a topic and once complete you would receive a t-shirt. Sounds like a bang up deal, but when I asked for the t-shirt in advance they told me to call mister ponzi at 1-800-328-7448

Interesting. Well good for you. I am curious. How long have you had these voices in your head?

Some excellent and genuinely needed updates to many guides and threads have been spearheaded by volunteers. It's a fine way to make a long-lasting contribution.

If I might make a suggestion.

Maybe tap someone who has recently gone through a given process or visa path and ask them to make notes, maybe offer them a years free membership.

I can look at the K-1 flow chart for instance and know that it needs to be updated but I haven't the recent experience to update it.
