HI, guys I need your input here.. My husband and I are quite lost at this moment.

Anyway we decided to file my AOS this year, (sigh) finally! but my question is, where and how could I change my single name to my married name in my passport? what are the requirements to do it. Can I do that change while waiting for my green card?

I would really appreciate any answers and help. TIA

A&B is right, you need to check with the Philippine embassy who has jurisdiction over your state: http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/philippines-dc/consulate-finder-dc/

First, you need to do a ROM (Report of Marriage), and then once done, you can now proceed to renewal of passport (using your married name). Some embassies allow ROM and passport renewal at the same date (considering an approved ROM first), but you have to inquire, just the same.

Im not sure if this helps but I called the Philippine embassy in Washington dc cause I had a question about my fiancée passport expiring and I thought she would have to make a trip back to the phil to renew. But they said no she can renew her passport in D.C. and it will only take about 2 weeks. So im pretty sure you can get your name change as well. Hope this helps. Good Luck......

Since we are on this subject let me ask you this. When you do a ROM (report of marriage) at the phil embassy in D.C where im at, will my soon to be wife and I marriage be recognized in the phil? Meaning that I myself as a USC will no longer have a 30 day visitor stamp to the phil since im married to my wife and its recognized?

Great to hear that. I haven't done my ROM yet. I'm waiting for the consulate outreach here in NJ. I missed the first round after we got married. You can also check out if they will have outreach scheduled soon. Which state are you from, btw? :)

Yes. That's exactly the purpose of the ROM. It is to register your marriage in PH national statistics office (NSO). The next time your wife request for a cenomar, the result will be a "cemar" with details of marriage to you. Anyway, when you visit PH next time, you should go through the same immigration officer at the same time. Your passport will be stamped as "Balikbayan", like your wife's. Check this website for more details: http://www.immigration.gov.ph/index.php/faqs/visa-inquiry/balikbayan-previlege. Just not sure if a marriage cert will be asked at this point as I have never done this myself. :)

Chinook and I have never been asked for our marriage certificate. Without us even asking, the officer always stamps both of our passports for a one-year visit. This was true even before we reported our marriage.

Thanks for sharing, Tahoma! I figured immigrations won't really have a way to access anything from NSO to verify this at that point. :)

That's right, immigration doesn't check with the NSO.

When Chinook was still traveling on her Philippines passport (which was in her maiden name), immigration never even asked us if we were married. They stamped both of us for a one-year visit and sent us on the way in less than thirty seconds.
