I wonder if they put it on the forbidden term list? If it is, I won't use it anymore. I imagine that we are going to be using a limited vocabulary here from now on. Most common everyday slang and adjectives are offensive to someone.

As for the term Redneck- It describes a certain country, usually uneducated white person. INMHO it is totally a matter of perspective who is and isn't . To New York city dweller, I am sure they make think I am a redneck, with my thick Georgia accent, but to your avg person from Georgia .. No.

Here is my rub, if I use the term Thug, to describe a young black , who portrays a certain dress, culture and lifestyle, the PC police lose their collective minds. Regardless of the fact the term was popularized and perpetuated by other blacks. The term in no way paints all blacks as being that way. However the term Redneck, which also has a very specific meaning, and brought into the mainstream by Jeff Foxworthy is no big deal.

To me it's just a huge double standard .

I understand and agree there is a double standard. We need to discuss this also and do it somehow without too much rancor. We don't need a dozen threads from a few that shows the differences such as Danno does either. The mods may feel different though but I don't want bans passed around like candy. Maybe we can try to see if a middle ground can be reached. After we do ten mabe we can get a head mod to look at and get an agreement.

(been giving this some thought since yesterday. Couldn't quite determine how to organize a succinct response...still haven't got it down but gonna give it a try)

First, I personally think he posted those posts for more than 1 reason. A few come to mind = (Blacks ) Self Indulgent Debate, Debate White Guilt, Express his POV regarding AA, Express his POV how to make a change....etc. ) (Gays ) Self Indulgent Debate, Express his POV = Lifestyle Choice and thinly veiled disparagement, Political & Societal Ramifications...& let's not 4get another of his faves = Single Parents.....(pretty much) same reasons as above but mostly the larger theme of Moral Decay destroying society. (in his mind)

I am not convinced Danno is a racist. (but) I am convinced Danno has very well defined opinions and he is passionate about it.

I'm not endorsing his POV...(but) I support his freedom to express it in this forum (until and if the rules change)

You may be right, but I think the main idea was to create controversy and stir the pot. It was a bit unusual, IMO for someone to post threads on the same two subjects over and over again, always with the said subjects being put in a negative light. He used no slurs, so no TOS violations. But what about baiting and the classic "preventing others right to enjoy the forums"? Those are used as a TOS of violation, especially the latter. My only point in bringing Danno up was for the what's acceptable and what's not discussion. I can guarantee that if you posted identical threads but make Islam and Muslim's the subject matter, they would never be tolerated, even when your viewpoint was supported with facts. Ask NB what happened when he posted a video of a well known and respected Cleric who was talking about the technicalities of when wife beating was allowed.

They probably don't have a problem with it. I'm sure there are lots of common slang terms they have no problem with, hence my initial point, someone is always offended no matter what. And some go around from thread to thread looking for things that they find offensive, either to report or derail the discussion. Some users come to this forum and report and they don't ever participate. Others bait and report. Others participate and report. And some never or rarely report. For the most part, the policing of this thread was handled in house, with a few clear inputs by moderation.

You and I and also several others can bash each other and joke around and none of us gets upset or takes it seriously, it's all in good fun. The regular moderation crew knows who plays around with who and generally let's it go as long as it's not over the top.
