I don't know if there needs to be a certain number of reports for a mod to intervene. Like when some loser comes along and posts a lot of racist ####### about Marvin. It shouldn't just sit there for all the world to see until enough people report it. Racism should not be tolerated. However, it needs to be obvious racism, sexism, etc. Danno, I don't think, ever crossed the line.

I also don't mind the filter on profanity, since everybody knows how to work around it.

Other than that, there's not much else I can think of that needs to be monitored.

Too much time playing on VJ = I had a dream about this place last night AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

I was being chased by UNDEAD...I was making my way to a tall concrete gate...the gate closed before I could escape...I turned around to face the consequences & realized...I was inside the world of VJ and the Undead were the 1s brought back via amnesty!!

(but) I still believe the current point system is the trigger = Automatic penalty with step up in punishment dictated by point system. That would have to be undone to prevent future suspensions and bans.

I don't see a need for a "second tier" forum or more rules or anything.

The problem as I see it is that the modding is inconsistent. The new moderators lack context to decide what should be removed or not, because they don't want to read the whole thread, and cherry pick one post based on whims or to appease whoever reported it. A report does not require action, it does require a check that should come down to mods who know how to call things when they see it.

The TOS, and any "law" is purposefully pliable and non distinct, how can someone define emotions or responses? Some new mods are obsessed with the letter of the law, instead of the spirit of the law. There is no need to read the TOS daily, or make some giant list. When someone has gone too far should be fairly obvious. The problem is that some mods lack the ability or the patience to explain their reasoning.

Another problem I see is that the new mods are happy to take the easy way out and say something is locked for "bickering" or "drama," when they should have the balls to say something is locked for personal attacks, racism, etc.

I think people are perfectly able to have polarized adult conversations without resorting to name calling, racism, or throwing in pornography for fun.

I think name calling is ok when someone deserves it.

You know, it would be pretty easy to find moderators dedicated to this forum from the regulars here. Instead of the current mods coming in and closing threads and banning people, there could be other moderators who take care of business here.

True Spook would probably be good, I can see him using the "hey dude cut it out" approach a lot.

I think in this debate, some are missing is the real problem is the inconsistent moderation. Something is ok for a year, then you get banned because complains. Or you post a video of a well known cleric, speaking on TV about it being OK to beat your wife. Heck it's news just as much as posting an aritcle about the westboro church. How can one get you suspended and the other be cool.

I think short of posting copyrighted material, porn , etc let it roll. In the event of a personal attack or perceived personal attack, it should be on the person being attacked to report, no one else.

Example-Marvin rags on me a good bit about my grammar, being a redneck, threatens to kill me. Well to me it's all in fun and part of the game. I really like the guy. Why should some passer by get to decide they don't like the way we talk to each other. Same thing with *** and myself. Yes we went at it sometimes, but he gave as good as he took and neither of us took any of it personally.

Why should Danno get banned because he feels that Black culture is responsible for many of the ills plaguing blacks today, and not racism. Not a popular view among some here, but he was never rude about it and never made it racist. Same thing for his gay stance. He did not agree with it. HE is wrong, but so what.

Penny could be Penny and she attacked me on several occasions. I still liked her and did not take offense to it. Heck it made me laugh and I would turn up the hillbilly sexist act even more when she did .Point is, why is it someone elses job to decide when I am attacked or not.

The point is, that if you did it right you would need very little Moderation here..

Example I posted a Video of a well known cleric talking about it being ok to hit your wife. I did not slam all of Islam. It was a fairly well circulated news story and current event.

It got deleted, and I think I got suspended or at least a warning, because someone complained which is absurd. Why is that a big no no, but a slam article on the Westboro church ok? ( Not condoning those idiots)

Well then what happens is people expect consistent moderation and report articles or posts are similar about other religious people and it just builds.

I said something one time to Penny "who is a little bit uber sensitive at times" she went all caustic on me. I just apologized profusely and in a few days she was over. No big deal.

Would the regulars made Mods be willing to discontinue or modify posting behavior? Would that be required?

(I remember Charles & Fish Dude used to bang it up almost daily...even Charles was a mod)

I woke up right before Kip got me....I don't think he was going to eat me...I think he had some other...intimate... interest in mind. Apparently Zombie Kip is a switch hitter. (not that there's anything wrong with that but.. I'm not into it so.. I woke up)

ETA: I really did have the dream...it was creepy like a zombie movie. Yuck
