Reporting should not have anything to do with it. Either somebody did something that is very offensive or they did not.

At the risk of repeating myself

Example:

I assign A B C etc to certain responses people like to give. it's meant in a funny way, but also to point out that the same response usually comes out.

It is fine for almost a year. Some tease me about. It's all good natured. Penny scolds me a few times. I laugh about it.

Then out of the blue in the middle of typing a reply I get banned for it, with no warning, and the only reason I am given is someone complained. That's just insane. Then when I buck a little, the same Mod starts handing out sanctions to me like candy, but tells me it's not Personal ??

In a normal world, someone would have said, Hey NB I know you been doing it for a year, but it is really rubbing some the wrong way. Would you mind toning it down ?

I don't see a need for a "second tier" forum or more rules or anything.

The problem as I see it is that the modding is inconsistent. The new moderators lack context to decide what should be removed or not, because they don't want to read the whole thread, and cherry pick one post based on whims or to appease whoever reported it. A report does not require action, it does require a check that should come down to mods who know how to call things when they see it.

The TOS, and any "law" is purposefully pliable and non distinct, how can someone define emotions or responses? Some new mods are obsessed with the letter of the law, instead of the spirit of the law. There is no need to read the TOS daily, or make some giant list. When someone has gone too far should be fairly obvious. The problem is that some mods lack the ability or the patience to explain their reasoning.

Another problem I see is that the new mods are happy to take the easy way out and say something is locked for "bickering" or "drama," when they should have the balls to say something is locked for personal attacks, racism, etc.

I think people are perfectly able to have polarized adult conversations without resorting to name calling, racism, or throwing in pornography for fun.
