That's what I just did to stay on the safe side.

Hi,

Sorry I am late to the party...

I went through the same ambiguous steps and here is the summary I posted on another thread:

I am replying to myself in the hope that this could be helpful to others.

Once the interview was scheduled by KCC, and I logged on to see the actual interview date on the Entrant Status Check Web site, I indeed had to register online for the appointment in Montreal here:

https://ais.usvisa-i...ion/iv_services

At this stage:

Select IV Service:

the right selection seems to be:

"I need to an Immigrant Visa appointment"

(and not the one that says DV Lottery appointment).

You can then add multiple applicants, and select the branch for Loomis.

Then the site shows your appointment date: you don't have to enter this date as the site will find it based on your information and show it to you.

You then get a page to print out for the interview. It has all the applicants' information, interview date and Courier branch.

In summary, you do have to register your appointment (received from KCC) on the site above before you go to your interview in Montreal.

Good luck for the interview !

  • 2 weeks later...

Just to update everyone on my case, finally after 2 weeks of hefty calling and emailing I was able to register my interview on the consulate's booking platform.

Medicals done, flights to YUL are booked, all docs are on hand, the waiting game is now on :)

Good luck!

And I'm back to finally announce that my visa was approved on August 6th yaay :) Visa status has been updated to issued yesterday as well.

The interview was pretty smooth, I initially submitted my country of birth's passport before getting to asked to submit my canadian passport instead since I'm a dual citizen.

I was asked to provide proof of financial support, my bank account with a balance of 14K CAD seemed to do the job.

Next I had a quick chat with the consular officer who seemed a bit confused as to whether I need a re-entry permit or not. I still have 2 terms to complete at school before grad next spring, after which I'll be heading right away to settle in the US for good. In other words I will have roughly 8-9 months of absence from US soil from the date of first entry as a LPR. He said that I will need to ask at the border if I need to apply for a re-entry permit or not.

Also do you know if my SSN will be processed right after my entry into the US (I checked the question that asks for it on DS260) or I still need to go to an office and apply in person? In the latter case is it possible to apply for it in a state (say WA) and have it delivered in a different one (PA or CA)?

Congrats on your approval!

From my experience you won't need a re-entry permit - returning within a year after first departure will be fine.

The SSN card should be dispatched automatically within 7-10 days, usually, if you checked the box. Occasionally something goes wrong though. I've seen someone else report they tried to apply for a SSN card in a different state from wher they wanted to settle and weren't allowed, but I don't know if that is a rule or not.

Thank you Susie for your input!

Another thing I'm concerned about is the selective service, is it possible to register online (I need the SSN though)?

Registration is typically online online and a SSN is required. However, exception has been made for someone who is eligible to register but doesn't currently have a SSN, such a person can download the form, fill it out and send it in:

Yes that sounds perfect, I'll wait till I get the SSN and register right after.

Today (exactly one week after my interview) I picked up my passport with the long awaited visa on it from Loomis in Burnaby, BC.

I also paid the USCIS fee right after I got back home.

To folks who already made the move across the border, how long have you been waiting for after entry as a LPR to get the plastic GC and the SSN card?

Cheers

Congratulations !!

SSN card 7-10 days.

Green card 1-2 months.

Of course, things can and sometimes do go wrong. If the timelines seem significantly longer than those, start making enquiries!
