Thank you zuroma999!

I'm also wondering if I can put my address at a package pickup facility in Point Roberts, WA to get my green card over there?

It's much more convenient for me than my host's address in CA since I won't be moving for good till around April 2016 and I'll need to validate my visa beforehand.

Cheers

It's unlikely to be an acceptable address to USCIS. Just put your friend's address, and pick it up when you eventually get there or get him to courier it to you.

You are aware green cards usually take 1-2 months to arrive after activation?

I personally don't see why it shouldn't be accepted, it has a standard format:

My name

123-ABC X Street

Point Roberts, WA 98281

I've been using it for 5 years to pick up parcels from US based companies that don't ship internationally, never a single problem.

I'm not intending to do this change of address till I get to the POE.

Yes I'm aware the green card takes that much time to receive it, I thought about this alternative because 1-there's always a risk in losing docs with courier, 2-it's a pain in the *** to get down to southern CA to grab the card and back.

Well, if you personally don't see why it shouldn't be accepted, then by all means use it. Not sure why you asked then.

You may be interested to know that USCIS mail is marked as such, and there have been reports of USPS not delivering green cards to street addresses when the mailman cannot be sure the recipient lives there (such as, wrong name on the apartment mailbox etc). but if you're confident your parcel address will be fine and more trustworthy than a courier, go ahead.

I will keep you updated, sometime in July hopefully.

As Susie said, it is probably safest to use a non PO box address. Also, note that the green card has nothing to do with activating the visa. You activate it at the POE, and they'll put a temporary green card in your passport. You can use that for a full year to re-enter the US so you don't need the physical green card for anything.

The safest option is have it sent to your host and have them hold it until you get down or courier to you, but the choice is yours of course.

Hello,

Thank god finally we got approved yesterday, and back home toronto from Montreal !!

Here's my journey a big thanks to you guys it's time to give back

We booked a night at square Philips hotel me, my wife and my baby 5min away from the us consulate, got a good night of sleep (I tried :) ), with hotel valet for the car ($20 a day ) and luggage storage, I left everything at the hotel, just took my paper work and some Toys and food for my baby, we arrived around 8:05am our appointment was at 8:30am I don't advice anyone to go earlier then 30min ( thanks zurom999 for the tip ), just one person ahead of us as soon as we lined the guard called us in, a nice lady checked our loomis for the courier service, went through the security check just like the airport, and we head down stair as instructed by the security guard straight to the elevator no escort, we were 4 in the elevator ones at the 19th floor a nice visa receptionist checked our passport and gave us the ticket with the mention of applicant#4 we waited 10min and before been called by a lady ( had a rough morning looks like it :) ) to window #2 , asked my wife (principle applicant) for the passports and the appointment letter and she asked us to go pay the fees, and sit down and wait to be called, after 15min called by the same lady at the window #2 but this time she seems nicer spend almost 20min handing her the documents as she was asking them without the order of the check list, took our fingerprints, asked us to sit and wait to be called, 30min later we got called by a really nice lady to window#7 more privacy room, she asked us to read a consent that was taped on the window, she went through the documents and returned to us the original ones and start asking my wife, how long have you been married? What's your highest level of education? How about your husband? For how long have you been in Canada? Where are you planning to live in us? And why? And after that she start typing on the keyboard computer and said your visa is approved welcome to the United States, I said: that's it ,and she smiled and said: that's it. We were out by 10:10am

Very good experience, no documents was missing or asked in addition what was in the check list, let me give some tips:

1- don't go earlier than 30 minutes from your interview time.

2- if you're married get two copies of your marriage certificate.

3- the interview is very important to you treat it as such and wear a nice outfit (don't be over dressed).

4- don't take anything else then your documents leave everything in the hotel storage if you can.

Good luck to everyone waiting for the interviews.

Hi I have 2 questions about your experience.

1. Since Canada is not an eligible country, what did u have to do to proof that you are eligible for the DV?

2. Did she ask you anything about how you are going to support yourself? and did you have to fill out the affidavit of support form?

thanks

Many people live and interview in non-eligible countries.

Proof is a birth certificate showing you were born in an eligible country, or cross-chargeability to a spouse from an eligible country.

Hello guys,

Congrats for everyone, and thanks for sharing your experience.

I have a complicated situation and i would like to get your advice.

We applied for the DV lottery with a website called usagc in 2008 and we paid fees so they submit the application on our behalf for 20 years, and since that time they apply for us automatically every year for the dv lottery.

We received an email from them last week that we are winners, and i checked the DV lottery website and i found that my wife application is selected. But because i didn't know that we need to update our application every year before applying for the DV lottery, i found that we didn't add our sons who are born in Canada in 2011 & 2015.

We currently live in Canada and became Canadian citizens 2 months ago, but the address on the application was our previous address in Egypt.

I called KCC and they told me that i can still add family members to the DS-260 and it is up to the consular officer on the interview to decide.

We didn't miss that information on purpose, but i thought that the application we submit on the usagc website in 2008, is fixed and can't be updated.

Do you expect that we are in a bad situation to get the visa, or the consular officer at the interview will understand it and allow us to immigrate to the USA?

thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to say, but your application will most definitely be denied during the interview for failure to include your children on the eDV registration. The site you registered with which has been submitting your application on your behalf is not the official DV website. The CO will not overlook the fact that you didn't know your information wasn't updated. Safe yourself the stress of going through with the selection and wasting precious resources, forget about this selection.

You can give DV2017 a shot, come October 2015 if you're still interested in the DV lottery.

I agree with mom, unfortunately the official DV websites are very clear this case will be disqualified.

I also agree re entering for 2017 BUT you need to make sure this other bunch doesn't enter for you again as duplicate entries will also lead to disqualification.

Hi everyone,

So I finally got my interview date (first week of August), now when I go to register my appointment on the consulate's website I'm given 4 choices to select from before proceeding:

I need to register an Immigrant visa appointment

I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to schedule an appointment

I need to schedule a K visa appointment

I have received a letter to register or schedule a DV appointment

The most logical choice is obviously the last one, but what keeps me puzzled is that it asks for DS-160 number and not DS-260. The first choice asks for DS-260 number though.

Please for those of you who've been through this help me out!

Thank you

They have changed it from last year when I had to register my appointment. The wording does seem a bit confusing, but since this step is mainly for you to select your password and register for courier services, either the 1st or 4th choice will probably work.

Looking at the wording on the website, I would personally choose the 1st option:

I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC) or the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site.

Because it mentions the KCC, and you have already received a interview date, and you just have to register your appointment (the fourth choice is for both registering and scheduling appointments). Plus, as you mentioned, you have form DS-260 (immigrant) instead of DS-160 (non-immigrant).

I'm beyond that stage, I've already created an account on the website.

It's next when I sign in that I get asked to choose from the 4 services I mentioned.

I'm beyond that stage, I've already created an account on the website.

It's next when I sign in that I get asked to choose from the 4 services I mentioned.

The fourth choice has this warning: "The information entered below must match the applicant’s passport and DS-160 Number application. Any discrepancy will result in delays in the return of the applicant’s documents." so I would still suggest the first choice since it mentions DS-260.

Since the DV is an immigrant visa, the first choice still applies to you. Both choices ask for your case number so they will know you are part of the DV program from that.

Once again, I'm sure both will yield the same result. It is just registering you in their tracking system and so that they can return your passport. It doesn't affect your appointment since the KCC has already forwarded your appointment letter and other documents to them.

But if you are unsure you can can call their call center or skype address. On the 'contact us' page it lists them.
