I'm well aware what it takes to make it in the USAF. He had what it takes. And he's not the only one finding out it's four and done, even on his own squadron.

And that is why I believe the Pentagon agreed with this policy. It will give these kids a chance to earn the privilege of both serving our country and becoming a part of it, out and in the open.

You stand a better chance of getting struck by lighting than getting in the Air force with a Ged. They are picky and can afford to be, because it is a more cerebral service than a grunt service like the Army or Marines.

Starting around 94 the MC started making it more difficult for some carrerists to reenlist. They closed some MOS's (effectively) by raising the cutting score above what the current pool could acheive. To make Gunny in my field was unheard of for about 4 years and Staff Sgt wasn't much easier. Get passed over a couple of times and see ya. Lots of scrambling for other jobs and B billets. Recruiting numbers went up and senior staff NCO's eas'd. Reduced retirement and VA benefit payouts for the tax paying public.

Talk to the people getting canned, see what their section NCOs are telling the parents, and the picture is very different. What's going on is a force reduction and it's a numbers game. To broaden the potential recruitment base at this point in time, at the expense of retaining trained resources, makes no sense at all.

I have also been hearing of forced reductions. This has happened before and while doing so they tend to keep recruiting. With an all volunteer force this is not unusual at all.
