I'm sorry girl from celebes. I didn't mean to quote your message. Not sure how that happened. I meant to quote the OP's original post. Aloha

No problem. I was just giving an alternative way for the OP about her problem. As a matter of fact that is no matter how impossible things are going to happen, there is always way out for that. That's why this forum exist for me and...us. You can find the most silly questions here on VJ and people are still willing to answer those because we are here to help each other.

While I understand your anger and your desire to not only receive some moral satisfaction for yourself but to also prevent the same from happening to someone else the chances of winning are small and the expenses would be high. I felt the same way when my fiancé was in AP for over a year. It is what it is and the government is known for its bumbling.

Anyone can sue anyone in this country (although you need their permission to sue a government) and attorneys are always happy to take your money. That doesn't mean you will win.

Give you an example. I filed a claim against an ex-friend in small claims court. I knew the victory would be on paper only as she lived in Section 8 housing, received food stamps, and hadn't worked in almost a year. The amount it cost me was small but I was never able to collect on my judgment. The moral win was worth the small amount it cost me though.

Yeah, I can understand the frustration but a lawsuit will add to that stress. Gotta do a cost/benefit analysis and despite fees being substantial... they don't justify that type of investment.

Lost or mishandled paperwork also doesn't show intent. If you could sue a company easily every time they screwed that up all cable companies would be out of business. If there was some intentional slight, discrimination or malice somewhere in the process that you could prove, that's when you'd want to consider a lawsuit and consult with a lawyer.

I will say that this conversation sounds very American. The Government pisses me off! Can I sue them? :) Absolutely! Then again it won't actually fix anything or get you a result in this case sadly.
