SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER AT INTERVIEW

My soon to be daughter in law will have her interview in Manila.

She is deaf--does not hear or speak, and has low verbal written English skills.

Does the embassy provide a FSL sign language interpreter ?

Her mother can interpret, but I was of the impression that no one is allowed with her forthe interview.

She also will have her 2 yr. old K-2 son with her.

Yes, contact the US Consulate in Philippines to ask if they provide sign language interpreter or you are allowed to bring one to the interview.

No one will be allowed to accompany the applicant to the Embassy for the visa interview unless they fit into one of the following categories:

• Parents or legal guardians of a minor child applying for a visa.
• Person assisting an applicant with a disability (e.g. sign language interpreter).

I don't think there will be any issue with mom accompanying her daughter in this situation. They have allowed others to accompany that provide assistance.

Agreed with Merrytooth. Best to check with US Embassy Manila before your interview: http://manila.usembassy.gov/contact.html

Either they have an in-house or pre-approved sign language interpreter or you have to wait for confirmation if they allow entry of another person to assist the applicant.
