Yes, we can add an applicant, but we should also update our own DS-260 because of change in number of children.

When the child will be born we will also need a photo and a passport for the baby, so let's add another month of delay to get this done.

Correct me if I am wrong...

Yes you should wait as others have mentioned. My post was just to clarify for those asking what the new DS-260 online procedure was like; namely that you can't edit it after you have submitted it.

Just a quick update:

I got impatient and called KCC today. The representative I talked to said we can go ahead an submit now, and when the baby is born we should send them an email and they will then unlock our DS-260 applications so we can add her plus edit our own to declare that we have a child.

Oh,and she said the interviews will start in October.

Hope the above info will be helpful to others in our situation.

Hello I know it's been exactly one year but I have the exact same situation and was wondering how things went with adding the baby later on.

My brother in law just won the lottery and my sister is pregnant.

Was it possible for you guys to later unlock the DS260 and add the baby. Did it hinder the whole process?

Thanks!

Hi jentus,

Congrats!

Yes, it was all fine. Normally they respond to their emails in less than a week. If your brother in law writes to them and asks them to unlock the applications because of the new baby, they will go ahead and do it. It does not hinder the process at all. In addition to creating a new entry for the child, your brother in law and sister would need to be careful to update both of their applications, because they will technically both have one additional child to "declare."

Also it might be a good idea to write to KCC not immediately after the baby is born, but after his/her passport is issued because they would need to enter the passport information as well. Needless to say, they should apply for the baby's passport immediately after s/he is born.

I'm ready to file DS260, but my wife is pregnant, and I'm worried that baby will born after interview. She is due in November, and interview may be before then. Can I add child after interview, but before entering US?

I'm not an expert on this but I am quite sure they have had many examples of all sorts of scenarios, including this one. I wouldn't worry about it. If you have a successful interview you would get your passports back with your visas stamped, and if you have the baby anytime after the interview, my guess is you would contact your U.S. consulate again to let them know and they would guide you on how to get your child's visa. They may or may not require you to add a DS-260 for her and edit yours to indicate you now have a child. The other thing is, at the interview the visa officer would probably notice your wife is pregnant (and if not, you should be proactive and say she is), and he/she would explain what you would need to do. Whatever those steps may be, you should apply for the baby's passport immediately after he/she is born.

Actually, in this instance you don't need to "add" the child to the case, just take the baby, birth certificate and passport and it will automatically be processed as a LPR on arrival. If you come from a country that requires visas, you may need a travel letter from the embassy (for the airline) stating that the baby can come. In any case, you can discuss all this with the officer during your interview assuming it happens before the baby is born.
