Hi all,

First post here. Sorry if this has already been asked before, but I could not find anything that directly relates to my situation.

Recently won the "Green Card lottery" and started working on completing the online DS-260 form for me and my wife. She happens to be pregnant at the moment and we are expecting our first child in late August. We have a bit of a dilemma as to when we should submit our form, before or after the baby is born. Part of me says we should do it as early as possible so we don't miss the boat, but the other part says to wait until the child is born so I can add her as a dependent on the form before submitting. What would you recommend?

Fyi, my case # is 2015EU0002xxxx. I guess this number is neither too high nor too low, which makes the decision all the harder.

Thanks in advance for your help!

How can you add someone as a person if they are not born yet? People are counted after they are born, not while in development inside the mother.

I answered a similar question elsewhere. You have a very safe number, but one that is high enough that there should be no delay to your case if you submit the forms in August or September. It doesn't really make a difference to the application if you wait to submit or submit now and update later, but it's probably cleaner and easier to submit one set of forms, and there is no rush to submit now.

How can you add someone as a person if they are not born yet? People are counted after they are born, not while in development inside the mother.

They are fully aware of this, hence the questions about whether to submit forms now and update when the baby is born, or just to wait to submit...

Yes the old forum is down and the replacement one set up by the forum owner is up and running.

Mom, will all due respect !

The old forum sucks ! Even that alternative that they offered is not working! I got a google account and FB but just doesn't work :(

I'm not an official or an attorney!

Its all about a guess work...

I'm just a DVHOLIC :)

Thank you all for your input.

SusieQQQ, if we do go ahead with the submission of our application now, and attempt to add the baby in Aug-Sep when she is born, do you know how we would go about it? I wonder if our already submitted DS-260 could still be accessed online later in the year and any new family member additions made at that stage, or if we could just bring our baby to the interview (assuming she would be born before the interview date) and let the visa officer tell us what to do. I wish they published clear instructions on all these possible scenarios.

The old way of doing it was to submit new Ds230 forms, along with a copy of the birth certificate. I am guessing that you would either be able to access your DS260 or be able to submit a new one. It may be worth asking KCC what is the "new" way; however given they are probably inundated with queries at present it may be worth waiting a month or two to ask them! I've noticed a distinct difference in how personalized their answers are depending on if it is a particularly busy time for them or not!!

congratulation first

in there site http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/diversity-visa/if-you-are-selected/submit-your-ds-260-online-application.html

"If your family circumstances have changed after you entered the lottery, for example, if you have gotten married or had a child, you will need to add your new family members to your case. (“Family member” refers to a spouse and/or unmarried children who had not reached age 21 before you entered the lottery.)"

I think just fill it now and add your future child later.

Yes they know that.... They were asking about HOW to add the child later...

Thanks for your answers.

Upkilo, I assumed that meant if your family situation changed after you entered the lottery but BEFORE submitting the application (DS-260), unless they intend to keep the form available online for future amendments even after it has been submitted (I hope they do - maybe I can find someone who has already submitted and ask them to check if they can still access and edit their forms - I might actually start a new topic on this). Besides the vagueness of the timing, as SusieQQQ said, that text also does not address HOW the addition would be done, especially if the application will be taken offline as soon as it has been submitted.

SusieQQQ, thanks for the great insight and advice. The response I got from KCC yesterday was very generic and not helpful, but I guess I will hold off on my application for a month or so and try again because like you said they must be flooded with inquiries right now.

Oops, already replied to him in his other thread instead of here. But once you submit the DS-260, you can view it but can't edit anything. But there is an "add applicant" button to start new DS-260s for each additional family member.

Yes, we can add an applicant, but we should also update our own DS-260 because of change in number of children.

When the child will be born we will also need a photo and a passport for the baby, so let's add another month of delay to get this done.

Correct me if I am wrong...
