Yay Tacos !

you got any papusa hawkers nearby? I am liking those more, these days.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I might should post this'n elsewhere, but I wanted to see what you guys thought:

I just rec’d a call from a family member whose brother recently passed away. Family member is concerned about brother’s wife. Wife has a permanent green card and is in the process of applying for citizenship. English is not her primary language. What impact does her status have on rec’g Soc Sec? She does work (part-time, minimum wage), but was financially reliant on husband for housing (rented apt) and financial support. What resources should they be looking into/what questions should they be asking?

Situation at work, mind you.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

Is she of retirement age? Can receive benefits based on husband's income. If raising husband's child in the home, can receive benefits. In between she ain't got nothing.

Ok...not too hard. But many variables. What kind of contributions did the deceased make over his lifetime?

Are there kids? How old was he when he died? How old is she now?

She can collect social security benefits and or supplemental security income.

Did he have life insurance? pension? 401? Ira? Other funds?

And....her status has no impact on her collecting any benefits.

Does it matter how long the couple are married to determine the how much social security benefits the living spouse could receive?

No

But it does matter if he had a former spouse who may or may not collect a part of his benefits.
