hey that VJ going blank issue, it's happening to me now.....

I had it too

Your husband is a special special man. Who fails the theory part of the exam? After I told mine about the school bus rules and flashing red/yellow, he was all set to go and passed it.

He also easily passed the driving exam. Did you have a license in another country?

If he isn't fine, he'll just retake it in 2 months or whenever the minimum time expires.

The theory here in Arkansas can be hard depending on the test you get. THe driving portion I don't know why they bother to test you they seem to just pass you with out actually doing much. They go around the block not even lane changes or parking.

In Arkansas, you can take a road test in a tractor :)

ya I did the driving exams in Switzerland and the Czech Republic...cause I like to know it all and go thru training regardless of need ? lol

well he did not fail just almost did...probably cause he just really did not want the license to begin with and why he never finished it. He is too scared to drive. It is weird...once I started telling him that the theory is not hard and people who just got here usually get their license straight away he turned his tune to "ya ya sure sure you just need to make sure you know stuff with regards to miles and what not"....I dunno I just think he thinks I am a complete idiot or he needs to feel like I am so he can feel like a man. oh i dont know. lol

but we are better lately....aka...we are not completely ignoring each other which is a nice change.....peace....that is what it is....peace.

my sister could drive there :D

When I used to subscribe to the WSJ in some of high school and college, I always got the feeling it had a more conservative slant to it, or at least neutral unlike the NYT.

Grande skinny mocha.... yum.

Good luck! The Dane has the first part of his GED exam tonight, I am also nervous because he hasn't studied.

Everything seems conservative when you're in highschool.

And not even a virtual mocha for us, sigh

with all honesty ....I always worry about multiple choices no matter what.....always always want to explain stuff next to my choice of answer....never liked multiple choice.

People with the equivalent of an 8th grade American education who've never studied American history and for whom English is a second language? The new GED is supposedly harder, but I have no idea. My husband's Danish education was beyond terrible - he is barely able to do simple algebra, knows no geography including Europe, almost no history, and even his English grammar is better than his Danish mostly through exposure to me (and I've been explaining some of the Danish grammar to him).

I was ridiculously conservative/libertarian in high school, a devoted follower of Ayn Rand, so no, not necessarily.

are Danish high schools bad in quality ? Are they divided based on your aptitude ? How does it work ? why was his education so bad ? I am simply curious.....

Ayn Rand ftw

I am insanely lazy today....cannot get out of bed....

Did he just ignore his education there, or is the system really that bad?

Ayn Rand ftw

No division on aptitude, it is actually against the Danish mentality. What happens is that compulsory education ends at 9th grade, so many of the students leave for technical training at that time. My husband did an additional year at a "boarding" school which basically wasn't academic, it is more just a fun time for teenagers to explore hobbies, themselves, and each other.

After that, they go to gymnasium and specialize in a few classes, like the British A-levels and I think German system? Only the very academic tend to do that though. The scores from that forever determine your future in terms of university admission, etc.

Test scores as a nation are high, but I am wondering when they test them (maybe after the lower 50-60% have already left school?) and if they account for the fact that the Danes are very homogeneous and economically advantaged. I highly doubt their highest test scores in any town could compete with areas with similar wealth in America.

interesting...so the system is the same as in the Czech Republic....8th grade (or 9th) ....you leave primary school and if you had good grades you get tested like mad to get into the good gymnasiums or private business schools ...that is only for kids who do well in school....gymnasium is usually University preparation so it is very difficult and selective while all the rest 8th graders/9th graders leave for trade (am i using the right term ?) schools and usually do not learn much in the way of math, geography, history etc...they learn the trade they decide to go into....like butchery (example).

makes sense then...definitely good luck to him and I hope he passes despite not having studied :) what's the first part of the GED in ?
