Parents want to apply for B2 visa but I will be changing my status from F1 to Permanent Resident

Hi,

I will be changing my status from F1 to permanent resident (marrying an US citizen). My parents want to come visit us within this time. At first I thought I would send them an invitation for my graduation so that in their application they can mention they are visiting me for my graduation. Within this time I am also planning to apply for my green card. Will it contradict with their B2 visa application? I am not sure I would wait till I get my green card or it won't be any problem if my parents mentioned that I am a F1 student and they want to come to my graduation.

They can take the graduation letter to the interview. You applying for green card have nothing to do with their approval. They need to show ties to their home country and convince the CO that they will be back after vacation/graduation/wedding

The issuance of B2 visa is strictly up to the visa counselor. If s/he finds your parents qualifies for the category and has adequate ties in BD that guarantees that they will come back, they may issue a tourist visa. Interestingly there is no silver bullet and yes true fact never hurts.

Your situation is reasonable and if the primary reason for your parents visit is your graduation ceremony, they should mention it. My suggestion would be to go for their B2 now because even after you become an LPR and your parents go for tourist visa, usually that won't impact that much (unless there is a pressing reason like you are pregnent and etc.). That's what I probably would do, but then again there wouldn't be any certainty anyway.

Good luck
