Hello everyone,

I received my 10 year green card two weeks ago, I am married to a us citizen and my husband just told me he wants a divorce. What is the next step? I am deeply devoted to my marriage but he told me he doesnt want to be married any longer and so obviously there is nothing I can do about it, I mentioned marriage therapy and he is not willing to do it, he told me he is done and wanted a divorce for a while. I feel like I am floating in despair and extremely depressed, I should be so happy because I just got my green card and here I am crying non stop wanting my husband to reconsider and he just wont do it. Any advice is much appreciated, Thanks a lot.

Appoint a Divorce Lawyer?

You can not trap another in a place they don't want. If it wasn't meant to be then there is another plan for you that you just don't see today

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

If you want to naturalise you will need to wait 2 years longer.

You already have your permanent GC; the divorce will not affect your LPR status. In regards to the divorce in itself, your very best will never be more than the 50% required to make any relationship work. Let him file for divorce if his decision is final and move on with your life. It will hurt a lot, but you will come out in one piece on the other side.

Good luck.
